I mean yeah it looks killer on you. If it feels good then you can’t go wrong with it. I’d still be curious to see the size of the zenith. Have you tried on the other models?

I did try on Pitch Black but for some reason it looked much larger on my wrist. The original DSOTM looks better anyway. I wish they would update the movement to the Master series. If they can make it a bit smaller that would be nice as well.

Now if only they did this to it...

...I would be all over it...
(Yes, I realize ‘illegibility’, but frankly watches are a redundancy, so looks are king)

Form must follow function. This watch would essentially be useless because you can't see what time it is. If you'd like, I can give you a rock to strap to your wrist if you feel like having a useless junk strapped to your wrist?

I love everything about the Shadow - manual wind, no-date, novel finish on the titanium case. But the dial is missing minute markers, so it's just not the one for me. So close!
I don't think this one is manual wind -

You're right, I had read somewhere that this was manual. They may have been talking about the original prototype from the '70s though I suppose.

I love the A384 case shape but the black does nothing for me.

One funny thing caught my attention today.

I am not sure if Zenith has actually said this, but in this Hodinkee article, they claim that the 70's PVD 146HP model was a prototype watch.
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/zenith-chronomaster-revival-shadow-introducing

And today I checked on eBay, there's one for sale for stupid money. And it's not even correct.
I remember clearly that a couple of years back I was looking at these models at sub 1500€ prices. I am sure they have sold here too.
So, don't think it's a prototype. It was not a rare model to find. You could get NOS one for under 2k EUR.
And there were multiple watches on sale at the same time.

Now, can't find them anymore and obviously, some say this is very rare and put a high price on it 😀

I believe that this was just sold at an auction out of Spain, and is immediately being flipped. I will try to find the link and post it. M

Original Prototype Zenith Gentlemen's Chronograph 1970s.
Legend has it that in 1970, shortly after Zenith launched the innovative El Primero caliber, the Manufacture produced a very small number of a hand-wound prototype chronograph, in a case of darkened steel, a rarity in its time.
In 2019, when Zenith began preparations for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the El Primero chronograph, the manufacturing team explored the bricked-up loft where Charles Vermonto hid all the blueprints and parts necessary to produce the El Primero movement, they found a box where the original prototype of the black chronograph that no one had seen since the beginning of the 70s was located, this one that we auctioned is one of the original prototypes that were made in the 70s and were not marketed.
Black dial with dashed numerals, baton hands and three auxiliary dials indicate the constant seconds, minutes and chronographic hours. Black blued steel case, rubber strap. Rope mechanism. Running state. Attached is the file of the watch made by the Zenith Manufacture.

This sold for 8.500 euros plus commission.

Upon examination, it is not the same watch. Likely the Seller trying to take advantage of the auction sale. M

Sounds like BS to me. This case was used because it was a popular case type back then. Zenith had a surplus of Martel's caliber 146HP movements. It was probably made in lesser quantities than Zenith's A3xx series, but not like 10 or whatever. Paying 8500€ for this is crazy 😀

There are several zenith models that are claimed to be “prototype” models. The proof seems very skimpy, and there are also appear to be a fair number of them, which would seem to belie the “prototype” label in and of itself.

So... back to the Shadow: I have been very tempted by this model, but I fear it may be a scratch magnet. Anyone owned one for any length of time who can weigh in on that?

I like this in the sense that nobody actually needs a watch, you have your phone to tell the time.

Besides, legibility is purely subjective (its not a hard quantifiable measurable attribute). I found the black black speedy perfectly legible in-hand (meaning, after starry eyes at the beauty it took me no time to tell the time)...
