Very early and unusual Constellation - thoughts?

Hi all,

Just came across this unusual Constellation (first photo) - there is very little information about it on the usual charts (including the Ultimate Constellation thread here). The only other similar example I have seen was posted by one of the OF members on another thread (second photo).

Does anyone know the story behind this model (noted that the crown is wrong and probably the case too)?

The seller even mentions himself in the description it’s a fantasy case. Likely it used to be 18k and was scrapped for melt value. What you’re buying is a dial, a movement and hands.

It is a pity to ruin such a watch just to get the scrap value of the case...

Do you know what reference number is this? The closest I could find is 2517, but still not the same layout of the dial (i.e. with the CHRONOMETRE in the bottom).
At first I was wondering if that is a real Constellation or just a redial.

It’s a 2648. They weren’t build for long though, not a particularly common reference.
