- If it’s off eBay….. unless it’s freshly serviced by a really reputable dealer
- if it’s ‘freshly serviced’ without an invoice from a known watchmaker
- if the service history is unknown
please have it serviced by someone you trust before using it. I’ve lost count of ‘freshly serviced’ or ‘serviced not too long ago’ older and vintage watches that look like my skillet after I’ve fried an egg.
The shine and discoloration is mostly pools of oil and grime. The movement was keeping decent time though the balance amplitude a little low.
