What? Never heard of this. I just divide by 2.54.

When I was in skule it was 25.4 plus some small change. Forgive me, skule was many, many years ago, I forget the amount of change. Then it was normalised to 25.40000 by fiat (not the car manufacturer). Although I worked in the USA for some years supporting our British CAD/CAM programs I don't remember this turning up, but in the 1980s we got complaints that over long distances our software came up with wrong dimensions. By then I was the backstop on anything our field people couldn't solve and that was when I found out about the "Survey Foot". But the NIST would like to bring the USA into the 19th C and make the Survey Foot equal to the regular foot. https://www.nist.gov/pml/us-surveyfoot

Good luck with that gals & guys at NIST. Now how is it going about going metric???

Nobody cares. Why change from one arbitrary measurement to another?

That said, metric is used in the sciences. We use the other measures in everyday life.

I'm going to cook up a batch of Chille con Carne tomorrow (while listening to Saudi GP practice). Now my recipe just throws into the pot more or less whatever I have to hand, but just suppose it was important to have one "cup" of something? Cup, yes cup, used in almost every USAmerican cooking instruction. I have have a number of USA cookbooks having lived there, please, what is a "cup"?

.95 metric cups, about 250 ml rounding up to a common measure.

By the way, I make chili with three pounds of meat, a large onion, a 10-1/2 ounce can of tomato sauce, and a quarter cup more or less of chili powder. 😀

I propose that we start measuring watch diameter in cubits...

Let’s not forget this one either:

The second one is the American Broadcasting Company, otherwise known as the Mickey Mouse Network.

Yea our ABC here is a bit older than the American one and is state funded similar to the BBC in the UK, so it actually produces a lot of good quality local content especially for kids and most of us were raised on it.

Oh my dear, chili powder? Civilised suppliers, such as supermarkets here in right-pondia have fresh chillies. And I note your recip has no garlic. A quick check reveals just one (1) clove available in my kitchen. Hmmm, feel the need for more.

Phone. Shopping list. Garlic.

"Metric cups"? 9th grade science did not prepare me for this at all.

Why not?
Every chili recipe is personal and most of them are particularly fine. I used to get quite extravegant with mine, including coffee and lots of other stuff... until I decided to go another direction. I went basic. Meat, onion, chili powder, tomato sauce.

In this case, it's best we celebrate our diversity rather than criticize differences. In that way, we learn.

In my case, I'm in the HQ city of Penzey Spices. They make good chili powder. Others are also good.

Fresh chilis impart a very different taste than chili powder does, so they are not one for one replacements of each other.

Good chili powder brings a depth of flavour to the end result that fresh chili's simply cannot.

For ours, we use a lot of different things...

Ground beef
Mushrooms - very finely chopped
Celery
Onions
Sweet green peppers
Chili Powder
Several types of beans
Canned whole tomatoes - San Marzano usually
Our home made beef stock
Jalapenos
Habaneros or something similar - my firned gave me some Armageddon chilis that are pretty good.
