I know, right? I learned the metric system and had never heard of a metric cup either. Yet, when I thought to answer @MRC I looked it up and found this:
https://www.metric-conversions.org/volume/us-cups-to-metric-cups.htm!
Every chili recipe is personal and most of them are particularly fine. I used to get quite extravegant with mine, including coffee and lots of other stuff... until I decided to go another direction. I went basic. Meat, onion, chili powder, tomato sauce.
C'mon, "metric cup" is an American invention to match cups to litres. Still, this site is useful because I did not know that one cup is nearly 0.25 litres. Handy because I have a number of USAian cookery books and I've always had to take a flying guess at the quantity required.
Mine includes a touch of this
Not enough to make it taste of chocolate but this amount in a big pan does make a difference.
Final round of a work-sponsored chili cookoff about 25 years ago:
Chili #1 was full of lots of good stuff. The maker was a cook for a few years before graduating college, and cooked dinner for his family most nights of the week. He had a big garden and used a bunch of stuff from it, including various peppers. Also used beer he brewed himself. Tons of flavors/ nuances.
Chili #2 was 80/20 ground beef from Giant, water, a bottle of beer from the back of the fridge (likely stale), a packet of Old El Paso seasoning, and some extra cayenne.
Chili #2 was the runaway winner. Everyone voted for it except the two people who made Chili #1 and #2.
Can you guess why I know the details of Chili #2? I felt really bad for the other guy, but he got so mad about it I stopped feeling bad and rubbed it in instead 馃榿
