US citizens traveling to the US with non-US family

I need to find a way to get myself (US) and my family (Thai wife, two Japanese kids) back to the US to visit my ailing mother. My wife's visa from a few years ago is still valid; Japanese citizens generally don't need a visa to travel to the US. The pandemic, obviously, has complicated this situation.

I will be contacting the US embassy in Tokyo, but there are a lot of variables, so if anyone has any insight into the challenges of getting non-citizen family into the US for this kind of non-holiday, your comments would be greatly appreciated.

Spouses and children are allowed entry per the EO, but make sure have a copy of your marriage license and relevant documentation for children.

Thanks for the replies. An American acquaintance who made the trip under similar circumstances invited me to a Facebook group that so far has been a gold mine of specific information. Everyone agrees that the hard part is returning to Japan as foreigners. Having Japanese kids helps a lot, but Japan requires a strict quarantine from the part of the US where my mom is, which had one of the worst surges of COVID-19 in the country a couple of months ago.
