US$2k for a Connie?

Hey all,

With this post I'd like to wish you all a happy holiday season and an amazing new year!

I've come across this steel-cased dog leg Constellation with 561 cal. It was recently serviced and keeping good time. I don't have many photos from inside nor much further details but I don't expect any bad surprises regarding the movement etc.

The seller asks $2000 net including the BOR bracelet. Do you think it's overpriced when compared to the UK or US market? Or is it a fair price considering latest price hikes?

Now, I'm sure some of you are willing to share the same old wisdom that "everyone can pay and ask for any price for the watch and it's buyer's or seller's choice/like/means to pay or ask either $500 or $5000 for a Connie". Yes, that's true but there are fair prices like asked for in the forum and therea are ridiculous prices as you can see on Chrono24. But interestingly, the prices tend to depend on various factors (which I can't exactly conceptualise as I'm a fan far from keen eye for Connies) on OF, as well.

Besides, I wanted to ask your opinion particularly for the following reasons. Due to the ongoing pandemic, I'm currently living in Turkey but normally I'm working in the UK and often travelling to the US. So, under normal circumstances, access to British and American markets with low shipping and no duty cost is not an issue. But currently, I don't want to involve in any such risky and costly procedures so I need to stick to the market in Turkey, which is literally full of Frankens, redials and other terrible examples of Omegas. It's really hard to come by with a good old vintage Omega classic.

With that being said, I'm not in a desperate position to immediately add a new watch to my already extravagant collection, nor planning to sell any of my babies any time soon. So the real question is, should I wait until I can get back to UK/US or is this warch priced reasonably considering any market?

Thanks for your contribution in advance!

If this was a pie pan dial, I'd be more hesitant, but for a dome dial that's definitely too much imo. I'm not even discussing condition here, as it does show some aging, obviously, but even a dome dial in better condition with a BoR shouldn't set you back 2000USD.

This would be an okay price for a pie pan but not for a dome dial Connie. I would wait for a better deal.

Looks like a nice watch, though.

Yup, that's why it made me think twice. And tbh, if it wasn't a good one, I wouldn't even think about taking your time with a question about the price.

@MtV , @seekingseaquest , thank you so much for the inputs, that's exactly what I've thought. Particularly piepans tend to have a price premium but still, not

The seller does offer a 14k solid gold cased piepan for a whopping $3,200 (attached a photo below) but there are two reasons setting me back: 1) Not a huge fan of golden case. 2) I suspect that the watch had some history with (over)-polishing?

Btw, I hope that forum members aren't bothered by price questions like these. I also see them as a contribution to the knowledge pool here about markets around the world.

As others have said, if this was a steel cased pie pan Connie in good condition, 2k would not be unreasonable. It’s too much for a dome dial, particularly where, as here, the dial is patinated and has no special features (onyx inserts, crosshair, etc.).

2k is high! Is the dial pristine or has some spotting? Nevertheless is high.

For comparison, I recently came across this for 1k usd. Its not a Connie but still.

The gold Connie is very nice....but the guy is pricing them very high.

Agree it’s too high for a dome dial.

I sold a nicer one last year for half the price.

Thanks you guys for your inputs. I'm glad that I'm not looking at things so stingily and unaware of global prices 😀 All in all, you've all got an idea about the market here. I mean, some of the sellers here buy watches abroad, get them into country via a friend etc and still charging as if they paid high customs duties etc. Look forward to coming back to more reasonable markets really.
