UPS, This is ridiculous

In the future when people ask me why I don't ship internationally, I'm going to point them towards this thread. I use USPS Priority Mail in the CONUS only (fully insured) and it's extremely reliable. Granted, I haven't had to actually make an insurance claim yet so I can't speak to if it actually works or not.

Also, I get that you're frustrated that they missed the delivery window, but the package was all of 5 hours late... maybe cut them some slack.

Please read again. They gave me a delivery window of 11am to 6pm.... on a weekend. I had a party to attend that day at 5.30pm and I had to inform that I was late... I left my place at 6.15pm, still looking out for the ups van right to the end.

I am very busy usually on weekends. Out running errands, marketing etc. You cannot expect someone to stay at home all day waiting for a delivery that didn't happen.... 5 hours past their slated time.

Of course, I can imagine they have hundreds of packages to deliver. But this isn't the delivery guy's fault. It's the company issue. They don't allow you to state a time window (e.g Fedex has a window of 2pm to 6pm, or 6pm to 10pm) so it gives you alot more to play with....

You speak of 5 hours like its 5minutes..........

I understand your frustration, but you were late to a party because you were waiting for a watch delivery? I get just as excited about receiving a watch in the mail as the next guy, but come on.

What a world we live in where a package being 5 hours late is some kind of travesty. If you're not around when a package gets there, oh well! It happens. Just pick it up the next day. Or the day after that. The world is not going to end because you didn't get your watch on time.

I will always use Fedex over UPS and UPS over USPS for shipping items of worth. I track everything because things can walk away from anyone at anytime.

You obviously didn’t read what I said correctly.

Where do ups drivers deliver at 11pm at night????? I’m in bed at that point like most to be ready for work the next day.

It's crazy. FedEx DHL usps even singpost doesn't do this.

Ha, Singpost, don't get me started. They've attempted delivery for 2 packages when no one was home, left the postal slip for self collection. Went to the post office next day & discovered that the 2 packages were in different locations. One in Paya Lebar, another in Simpang Bedok. No explanation given, even the manager at the post office was puzzled when he saw my slips.

Just last month, they said a delivery attempt was made on a Saturday but no one was home. The whole family was in. I called & complained, why come all the way to my place & leave a "missed delivery" slip when you could just deliver the actual thing? Doorbell wasn't rung, nothing. As per all previous complains, they send a survey to ask how satisfied i was with the resolution when no explanation was ever given, no follow up to apologise, nothing. Just a "case ticket created" mail followed by a survey email.

Sorry to hear about that. I got a missed delivery yesterday and I'm heading down to hougang post office to collect it. So far 10/10 no issues with singpost. Ups on the other hand, prior to this issue, I had ordered a smiths watch from UK, package was lost by ups and they are still sending me the bill for taxes. I called them and emailed them stating I didn't receive the package and got my refund. Next month they still send the letter for the Tax bill

Conclusion: all postal services more or less suck.

We should develop our own OF members postal system. We got members constantly traveling all hemispheres right? Compensation for delivery services will be special price reductions on FS watches here for the members who did the good deeds.

What happened to the transaction in the end?
The seller got a full refund from paypal (including all the fees that I had paid) and because I didn't purchase extra insurance I could only claim £100 back.

I lost the watch and the paypal fees.

A very tough lesson learned.

I wish I could say DHL was better 😡 I have a packaged that was sent from the Netherlands on Monday. Check the site and it only shows the electronic label being created! I have pictures of the package, at the DHL counter, with the paperwork attached. Asked the seller to open an investigation after 48 hours of no updated info. DHL got back to him and said THEY could see the package, and when it makes it way to the international hub in Germany, the site should start refreshing! Of course that has not happened as of today. Good grief.......My only solace if something goes haywire is its ParcelPro insured by me. The joys of international shipping. I agree with the many comments above....FedEx from now on!

I think the issue here would be more about a high-value item being potentially left out at night. Also, a lot of people don't have a schedule as flexible as you may have, so something to consider. If a delivery company tries to deliver at 11 PM and wakes our baby up, that's a no-go.

My experience with UPS has on average been ok with some botched deliveries. USPS has worked out pretty well so far, and FedEx is very reliable.

For UPS, I have it set up that deliveries to my home will instead by held at a local business that they cooperate with. It's a convenience store that's open long hours so it's easy for me to drop by and get my package. UPS is still not my favorite carrier for other reasons, but at least they've worked on the "drop whatever you're paid for or doing and sit at home twiddling your thumbs until we decide to show up" aspect of their service.

FedEx does something similar with delivery to the FedEx Office locations. And USPS of course will hold your package at a local post office.

I understand that insurance claims for ANY of the shippers will only be for documented free market value. If it's something that's been sold recently, probably okay if you can show evidence of it. If it has only personal value or has no documented price history, forget it.

Am I the only one who uses my work address to have packages delivered? I don't go through nearly as many shipments as some of you, but I have our Exec Assistant receive and hold my packages for me. I have 4 waiting for me at the moment that I hope to pick up on Monday or Tuesday of next week. I guess a problem would be if at some point I wanted to 'return' something within a short defined 'within 2 days' or similar period as called out by a seller, but for the most part I buy what I feel I have high confidence in and so I hope to never need a return.

I have packages delivered to my office as well -- at least if they are packages that require signature. Packages that get sent to my house live on the front porch for several hours, and the street I am on is very busy and has a lot of foot traffic.

Waited the whole God damn Saturday for the package and it never came. Delivery slated at 11-6pm and no signs no calls no messages nothing...

One technique that always works for me when waiting for a package requiring an adult signature and I don't want/can't wait around the house.. I leave a sign on my front door indicating "Please drop all deliveries next door =>" this is of course after verifying our trusty next door neighbor will be home and will be there to receive/sign. If for some reason UPS/FedEx/DHL misses the mark, there is always a following day... no biggie, blood pressure remains within normal range, and my day goes on...

We get many Amazon deliveries dropped on our doorstep. I have 12 hi-def security cameras around our home that have motion-activated-recording. If by chance a package ever went missing, I'd at least have some documented evidence to review.

Interestingly, before Christmas last year our neighbours across the street had a 60+" television delivered and left at their front door. I don't think anyone in our neighbourhood is too worried about theft... although my bigger concern would have been leaving a high-priced electronic device out in the cold for a few hours.

That's the best advice there.
