Unusual constellation

Hi all.
Have just joined the forum, although I have been reading the threads for many years. I collect constellations and picked up this 14k cal 551 one recently from the states. The dial looks to be factory replacement (no Swiss at bottom etc) however it’s the 12 marker I’m concerned about. I have found just two other examples online and I wonder if anyone has any knowledge or insights as to this configuration. Thanks!

The insight of this configuration is that the dial was badly repainted, sorry!

The minute track does look a bit wonky, my feeling is that it is repainted.

Thanks very much. Appreciate the photo is not great but minute track is fine under a loupe. Thanks again

No worries. For my education, what are the indicators? Thanks again.

Not in my opinion. The lines are uneven and too bold, and very asymmetrical around some of the markers. The lume is clearly replaced, which is often a tip-off. There are other issues, e.g. with the font (esp "Constellation") and alignment. It's not the worst I've seen, and if you like it, you should enjoy it. The case looks nice.

Font looks off, the 'R' in Chronometer has too short feet, the minute markers are too long and they are too thick, I can't see any sunburst effect, pretty sure there a no serifs at the letters...

welcome @Bakerman

As the guys say above, the dial has been repainted, for all the reasons they gave.

Additionally, I'm not sure that I have ever seen that dial furniture used on a Constellation, so it may be a dial from a different, similarly sized, Omega watch made up to look like a Constellation dial.
If you have images of the other two you found on line it would be useful to post them here for information.

That's a rough redial, definitely not a factory replacement, I'd hunt for a decent replacement as the case is good enough and there are a lot of Constellation dials floating around due to gold cases being scrapped.

Thanks for the links @Bakerman

Both of the examples in the links are from US sources - is the original watch also from the US?

I suspect these dials were produced (probably exclusively) for the US market - hence not seen often.

That’s correct @Peemacgee. The watch is indeed from the US. I was told it was from a lifelong owner who had it serviced by omega in the US and wound up with a factory replacement dial against his wishes. From what I’ve read, the model was one of the last ‘transition’ models before dogleg and sold alongside same for a short period but was relatively unpopular in the face of that new design. Thanks very much again for those insights!

Thank you @dsio if you have any pointers as to where I might find one, I would be most grateful.

Both dials have different print to yours.
