Universal Genève: which reference is it?

Dear all,

I saw this watch in a shop and I like it because it remembers me some '70s sporty Heuer that I like but I cannot afford.

The movement inside is a Valjoux 7734 and the chrono functions are inconsistent: when I pushed the start, the minute's hand in the subdial went to 5 minutes, I reset and restarted, it went to 2 minutes etc.. I saw that in order to have not problems with that you have to push the button very quickly, anyway, I think it could be solved with a service.
As side note, if you look closely the dial has some "air" in between 12 and 3 o'clock: it is not perfectly near to the case.

I asked which reference is it, but the seller did not know it, he just said it is from 70's: searching with "14027" (the number I saw on the back) I had no results.
Searching with "17 rubis incabloc" or "Valjoux 7734" I saw a lot of very similar watch but from other brands like Breitling, Tissot, Dugena, Arctos, Arvor, Zodiac, BWC... and not even one like this one.

Could you kindly help me to understand which model is it and what price should I pay for it?

Thank you very much! 😀

It's like no Universal Geneve I've ever seen and I strongly suspect it has very little, if anything, to do with Universal Geneve.

I would avoid.

Thank you Mazoue, actually it is very strange I did not find another watch like this from Universal on internet!

But, long story short: I'd love to buy an Heuer Camaro or a Monaco, but I can't afford it.
What could I aim for, spending as little as possible? (Of course no quartz, but something like a 7733 or 7734 movement watch?)

What is your budget? Its hard to answer that question without understanding what your parameters are.

As you mentioned there are lots of companies that make these kind of watches. BWC seem to have a large variety of dial designs, and as an "unknown" brand the prices tend to be realistic. You could probably get a nice one in the 250-450 euro range depending on condition and service status. I think this Stowa was under 300 euros, and whilst it needs it's overgrown pusher sorting it's a nice watch at a relatively low price.

For 500 you can find a Tissot Seastar with a valjoux 7734 or a Seiko 6139

It’s anti choc!

It's not though. I opened the thread, suspecting nothing, and I am profoundly choc-ked.
