Dear Vintage Experts,

I have come across an Omega Vintage that I cannot sort in. The dial and case looks like a 2374 to me, however it has been labled as a 2494 Reference.

When I look up 2494 in the internet I cannot find anything similar to this. All with different hand shapes or other numeral styles, only.

Is my research incorrect or is there anything wrong with the watch on display?

The dial and hands are largely irrelevant, most references came with many different dials and you won't necessarily find every one using google. You should look at the shape of the case/lugs, check the movement, etc., to confirm the reference.

I think that what you have here is a very early Omega Seamaster, Ref. 2494. The shape of the case and Ref. 351 movement matches the information in the Omega Database.

Omega did not put Seamaster on the dial for several years after its introduction in 1948.

Although the style of the dial with radium and syringe hands looks more 1940’s than 1950’s, Omega used similar styles through at least 1950.

See example from 1950 catalog in lower left. Not the same watch, but the style elements are very close.

Thank you very much. Based on the Serial number from 1948, so that would match with the info you have shared. So, it could be a nice piece of early Seamasters.
