Well, there are collectors out there that are willing to pay the price, and .... If we compare top 60's UG's to 60 Heuers for example, although scarcer, they are actually way undervalued and in my eyes much much nicer. There are only going to be fewer and fewer as years go by ...

At this rate, they will be worth four figure wads and out of reach of the ordinary "joe bloggs" in a decade or so, so get cracking and buy in those rare UG's before it is too late !

Is it just me or dos that watch look pissed off? Those eyebrows...

 

Unfortunately this is a very small watch with with wrong pushers and crown, on op of it an incredibly bad redial, poor relume and the second hand is very hard to find...

Looks nice and original, even if it has had some water problems and a fixed lug.
Orginal dial with patina, but you won´t see it on the wrist.

Looks O.K. for me, but maybe the written "Universal Geneve" has been redrawn.

 

Picture from the eBay link both the UG name, and tricompax look odd. The minute subdial edge also looks odd.

 

Have to agree with @ELV web here, looks to be a redial!

 

The dial is not refinished, but it looks very water-washed with most of its lume missing and it has a wrong sweep second hand. Here's mine

 

I think I was wrong then, perhaps water washing also distorted the "A" in tricompax enough to make it look kind of strange.

 

I'm curious as to why is the 'Universal Geneve" Text so dark and thick compared to the rest of dial (much darker and thicker than yours)? Something seems fishy here!

 

I definitely see what you mean, but I see no evidence of a localized redial. To me, it looks like over-exposure to moisture has made the ink run just slightly. Everything from the odd spacing between the S and the A to the lilt of the L is correct, so I'm fairly confident it hasnt been touched up. Considering the condition of dial in its entirety, it also seems unlikely to me that someone would decide to alter just the logo.

The ebay one looks fine to me. However, water damage is a pain. It never gets any better. If it looses moisture, the paint flakes away, if moisture content increase, it gradually fades. There is no point trying to stabilize it. It would mean housing it in a temperature controlled environment. Ok if are off to mars ...

All you can do is enjoy it and hope you find a replacement dial at some point ... but the chances of that are slim !
