Seems to be a good day for Compax. What are your thoughts on this?
I personally love the simplicity of the dial. The crown and pushers seem to be plated and worn out a bit. Does anything else stand out to you?

Hi,
What do you think about this Compax?
1. The dealer says the dial is original. It looks so in the flesh. Do you confirm from the pictures?
2. Is it worth 5k€?
thanks!

Hi, the dial is definitely original, the minute hand is a bit long but it is not uncommon to see in 1940’s watches. But what you should be aware for is the case, the case might not be an original UG case. Please hold on your purchase, pending more photos on the caseback and inside caseback.

Thanks @Dre . Here is a picture of the caseback (number is “26362”). I will ask for photos of the inside caseback.
Does this photo confirm existing doubts you may have?

Damn .. Points to eagle eye Dre. We now need to see all markings, inside/outside case back, movement, side shots. What reference and s/n does the seller list? If locally cased, still dammed nice but there is a sizable negotiating point there.

Great comment. The serial number outside the case back is not common for UG cases. But it might be original as some gold UG watches for the French market were produced in France for a short period of time (cocorico!).
It should have the UG logo inside 😀

Redial
Hi @Oku can you please elaborate what led you to that conclusion?
I had my doubts about the inner-telemeter scale, I haven't seen many examples and the few I've come across were all red. The print quality seems different too but I thought multi-stage printing was common on UG dials.
Aside from the telemeter scale, the dial seem to match the one in this article:

Here are the other compax with inner telemeter scale I found:

Enlarge your pic and look at the paint of the dial. It is very uneven like ingrain wallpaper. Circles in the subdials are partly filled.

I see now. I thought "heavy patina" has affected the texture of the paint too but I agree it's very much possible that the dial is painted over and then printed on. I just didn't think anyone would go through that trouble.
Thanks again.

I don't think that one is a redial but I'm not going to go die on a hill for it. It may be- I just think the printing/fonts are too accurate for a redial.

I’m betting French case. I’m pretty sure there have been robust debates on valuation in the past.
