side note: why are so many crowns getting replaced in the past? One would have to assume the entire crown (and maybe stem) fell off ? Or were there others reasons to replace them back in the day?
If you use your watch each day over many years, the teeth are usually worn. And winding a watch with a crown with worn teeth is not so much fun, in particular when the main spring is strong.
If you ever tried to wind a Longines Conquest with original first gen crown, you know what I am talking about...

Totally agree. I have 2 Longines Conquest and despite the very nice design, it鈥檚 not really practical in everyday use. And the Omega Constellation with octagonal crown as well.

But not having the original crown is another pain in the eye...

Refinished dial.
Whats the tells? The finishing seems a little off from previous models i watched but the fonts seems ok. It is missing the round hourmarkers? But im far from good at this. Trying to learn though馃榾

We are talking about this watch right? The listing price has been changed three times. First had a starting bid of 0$, then the guy was offered a direct buy at 250$ so he changed the list to a starting bid of 250$ and a buy it now at 550$. Now he's removed the BIN.

I don't trust it and the pictures are crap.

I don鈥檛 like the vertical line and the way it bisects the M in Automatic. Print looks poor. Dial has an odd sheen to it. Pictures are terrible.

I asked the seller if he could send me some better pictures. He sent me the same pictures from the article. Asked him again if he could get a better shot of the dial. Sent me the same pictures again. Tried to specify. He said it was the best he could do. Seems suspicious 馃槣

I have not seen one with gilt furniture like this, or is that because of the lighting?

Here's one I've listed, a rather nice gold-filled three-hander from the 1940s which requires a little attention: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273505547347 I hope my posting this is OK, if not, please could you let me know and I will happily remove this post.

Nice watch indeed, unfortunately I think that the OF members are not 'afficionados' of gold filled UG watches. But again, it's a nice watch, great name, nice condition, undervaluated... Don't sell it for under 250$, this is just my opinion, it is easy to fix the crown.
