·Hi all,
If I'm honest, this one is painful to list. But, some sacrifices must be made in order to trim the collection to account for other life expenses. Up for sale from my personal collection is a Universal Geneve Compur from the mid 1930s. If you know Universal Geneve, you know the Compur chronographs were never made in large numbers and the snapback case construction meant most of the dials ended up seeing a significant level of degradation over the years. Which is why when I went searching for this type of chronograph it took me a year and a half and some help from a friend @bgrisso to finally land one that I liked.
On to this example, the star is undoubtedly the dial. Originally born white, it has developed a beautiful and even creamy patina over the years. The red telemetre and blue tachymetre scales remain vibrant. And perhaps my favorite design element are the Art Deco inspired indices. Rounding it all out are the blued-purple hands.
Condition: Considering this example is approximately 85 years old, I would say that it is in good condition. The dial shows some degradation on the edges but overall presents well with even patina. The case is quite nice. Some small scratches here and there due to normal wear but presents cleanly. Service history is unknown but runs fine for a 85 year old watch. Chronograph starts, stops and resets as expected.
Additional Information:
Size: 35mm without crown
Serial: 591xxx
Year: 1936
Caliber: Manual wind, cal 285
Box/papers: No/No
Strap: Open ended large brown strap
I’m asking $3995 USD which will also include express shipping within CONUS. Other countries at cost. Watch and I are in the US and I can ship worldwide (with some exceptions).
Note on the pictures: These dials are notorious to photograph. There is an iridescent quality to these dials that pictures sadly do not capture. Suffice it to say the watch will present much nicer in hand than these photos.
