·Hi all,
The selloff continues and this one hurts as well. Up for sale is a two tone Rolex Submariner from 1990 with a stunning purple dial. As you may know, two tone and solid gold Rolex Submariners with blue dials from the early 1990s can sometimes age in a way where they start to exhibit shades of purple in certain lighting. Naturally, the vividness of the purple varies from dial to dial and I'd argue this example is one of the nicest that I have seen.
Details
Case & Bezel: Case is thick and in very good condition. Bezel is original and also in very good condition. Pip is original and has turned a cream color.
Dial, Hands and Crystal: Dial exhibits a vivid shade of purple in indirect lighting and presents in very good condition. The lume on the hands and indices is tritium and has turned a light shade of cream. Hour hand has what appears to be a couple tiny marks/tears in the tritium (barely visible to the naked eye). Sapphire crystal is in excellent condition with no noticeable scratches.
Bracelet: Two tone Oyster bracelet is original to the watch with a matching 08 clasp code. Very good condition and minimal stretch. The coronet on the clasp shows good definition (not overpolished). 11 links in total.
Movement: Automatic, cal 3135. It was serviced by the previous owner in 2022 and keeps excellent time.
Summary: A two tone Submariner with a beautiful and uncommon dial.
Additional Information:
Size: 40mm w/o crown
Serial: E40xxxx
Year: 1990
Box/papers: No/No
I’m asking $12,500 USD which will also include express shipping within CONUS. Other countries at cost. Watch and I are in the US and I can ship worldwide (with some exceptions).
Note on the pictures: They have been taken in bright sunlight to bring out the color variations in the dial. That combined with the macro lens means every tiny scratch is magnified. Most of these are otherwise negligible/invisible to the naked eye.
