Hello from Switzerland.

Here is my 5160 from 1937.

I had the privilege of a brief email exchange with Mr. Sala about my watch and he confirmed from pictures it looks legit.

Agreed but a considerable percentage of these early compurs were 30/31mm

Never say never with Universal, obviously, but many things about this intriguing watch gave me pause for thought. The UGlitterati seem united in admiration for it, though, so I guess it's just me?

It is always tricky to appraise such a unique dial. Nevertheless, I don't love the UG logo or the fonts in general. The outer track in the 6 o'clock subdial doesn't appear to be properly centred and looks much nearer to the '12' than it does the '6', for example. All subdials look a little rough to my eye, actually. Also, we've accepted that Compur with no 'Swiss' can be correct but I'm not sure the same has ever been agreed for 'Compax'?

I didn't look at it closely. I generally will not say something is a redial unless I feel very confident without research. In this case would require lots of research which I don't have time for, so it remains innocent until proven otherwise in my book. I was surprised it's running a 285, Compur 30 are normally running 386, and the other Compax 30 discussion in this forum I think was running a 381, so I was expecting a 3XX caliber in this example, not a 285. However, again, without research, I cannot really say anything about that.

Regarding the absence of “Swiss” - that is correct, it has nothing to do with the model, it’s related to production year only. Just for comparison see the other 5160 Compax posted earlier in this same thread.

I am afraid it’s quite tricky with the relationship between 30 marked dial and 3xx caliber. Many 22410 Spillmann cased Compax 30’s seem to have cal. 285 for example (I did some research on that because I was surprised to find this caliber in mine).
But mostly it is true, I would say.
