Ultra Deep sizing question

I tried on a DSSD once, I thought I would love it but the big flat sides of it really turned me off. Made it wear/look even bigger than it already is.

From your pics specifically, I still think it fits fine. I just dont like the side view of the big plain slab.

Looks a bit big, but it might be better if positioned slightly further up your wrist.

That said, if you're happy with it...

I think that watch would be too big for Shaquille O’Neal. But as everyone has said, the only opinion that matters is yours.

Still, if you’re posting here, you must have some doubts about it? I’ll say this: I have the same size wrist and daily-wear a watch that’s 2.5mm smaller (in diameter) and slightly slimmer lug-to-lug. It’s borderline too big on my wrist, but I think it’s only noticeably so from my own angle of view—in the mirror, it looks just fine.

I’d imagine the issue with this watch would be the thickness. My watch is substantially thick at 14.5mm. It slips under a shirt cuff, but I need to futz with it a lot. The Ultra Deep is over 18mm thick. To my eyes, that’s just grotesque. Some will say it’s grotesque in a good way—I might be in the camp that disagrees: it feels like something you’d wear to make a spectacle of yourself. But one man’s tacky is another man’s power move.

Anyway, only sharing because you invited feedback. And the consensus here seems to be in the other column, so what do I know. If you love it, wear it—no one else’s opinion should matter at all.

Also, I’d totally buy it if I had money to burn, just a cool display piece of horological interest! There’s no question that it’s an inherently cool thing.

Just own it…don’t let the watch own you.

This is not a desk diver, if you’re not going to use it as a swim/beach/dive watch it’s just crazy in my book.

1000m Certina DS3 not a small watch but great on rubber

That watch is a monstrosity, IMO. Way too big for anyone who doesn't have a giant wrist.

It will look fine on a wet suit without it is just too big. Cool looking watch, but crazy dimensions. Get an Invicta of the same size, wear it for a month. If you dont get tired of hauling that hockey puck around, then you are a big watch person.

Don't think Invicta has an 18mm watch 😀

It looks fine in the recent pics, if you like it, get it. Don't let the Debbie Downers here determine your decision. If the criteria for every dive watch was that it had to spend a lot of time in the water almost none would be sold.

To be fair, he specifically solicited opinions. Not being Debbie Downers—just giving honest opinions in reply to his solicitation. I for one would never offer an unsolicited critique on something like this, but if someone asks for my input, I’m assuming they want the real thing and aren’t just fishing for validation.

“it’s supposed to be ridiculous” is probably the best assessment of that watch. If ridiculousness is what you like, then rock it! Again, no one else’s opinion should matter. Your wrist.

If I sat next to him or anyone on a plane rocking this, my first question would be “Nice watch, do you dive” 😉

My next question would be “do you mind moving to the other side of the plane to balance the weight out a little?”

True, but he asked for opinions on how the watch looked on his wrist, not on the mission statement of the watch or its design, which is where the discussion drifted, to the point where it was suggested that if the watch wasn't going to be used in the water it was an inappropriate choice. The OP obviously likes the watch, and it looks fine on his wrist, that answers his question.

Point well taken—and I appreciate your concern for civility, which I totally share.

Guess I’d just say—this is a watch discussion forum, and if someone posts a query related to a specific watch, the watch itself is probably going to get discussed. Hopefully the OP didn’t take offense to anything anyone said. I certainly didn’t detect (or mean to project) any malice myself. But thread drift is going to happen.

If a few different opinions from total strangers on the internet about a watch you like deters you from buying a watch, that makes me wonder how much you really liked it to begin with (and why), and also whether a web forum is a healthy place for you to be spending your time. 😀 But I sense that the OP has been here for a bit and is cool with it all. He knows it’s all love on the OF.

Correct, no offense taken.I'm cool with any opinion, that's why i'm here.

I do like the watch, thats for sure, and if I buy it, I would wear it a lot. That's why I'm carefully thinking and looking at it from different angles.

All true @Annapolis, but I'm a Dragnet, Sgt. Joe Friday kind of guy, "All we want are the facts, ma'am". 😉
