UK AD Discounts

I think it all depends upon your location. I live on a small island off the UK which only has one AD and one large high street jeweller stocking Omega. I just bought a speedy pro a couple of months ago, they only offered up to 5% as they have no competition. The flip side is when they have stock they have had for a while you can significant discounts as they cannot move them and have limited market. All depends if its the model you're after.

In the end I went grey and saved 33%.

Thanks

Tcritchley80, I think that I probably purchased mine on your island, there where other financial benefits for me as I am from the mainland, I thought there was only 1 dealer on the rock though.

I've bought many Omega watches from AD and boutique but never heard of 40%. Did you get that much? Was it a watch sitting at show window for few years? There must be a catch if it's at 40% discount.
It's normal to get between 10-23% discount depending on the urgency the store feels in moving said watch out fast. It's my experience of 25 years.
I did not say that I got 40%, I said that at current prices & depreciation I would advise against that model UNLESS you could achieve 40%.
The watch had been with the AD for 2 years & I achieved a healthy discount on a tax free price, so overall I saved 42.5% on UK or Spanish prices. Final figure was £5250 GBP

Never heard of any new Omega watch at 40% at an AD or grey
Certainly not at an AD to my knowledge, but definitely possible from a grey market seller, depending upon the model. I just looked at Jomashop's website and there are more than a few Omega models for sale at discounts of 40-50% off retail, particularly from the De Ville, Seamaster and Constellation lines. In fact, there are a few models for sale at 50-60% off retail.

Oh absolutely. I was just under the impression OB’s did not give discounts. They gave champagne and extra straps whereas the AD’s gave discounts. It’s awesome regardless that you got the discount 👍

And I got a couple of very nice Omega pens, one for me and one for the Mrs. Apparently they can sell on a well known auction site for £70+ so worth having.

This is pretty unrealistic and setting up a lot of people for disappointment.
You did not read the post correctly & only paraphrased a part of it. Please re read & take the time & effort to understand it. It was model specific. And I did not say you could get 40%.

The local AD you purchased from and the high Street chain store jewellers opposite them stock Omega. Suspect they have an agreement with each other not to undercut although you can get 4yrs interest free credit with the chain store.

How much duty/VAT when you go back to the UK/Spain?

Right... you casually mention a model but you never say your “advice” is specific to that model. You just say their “current line up” is not worth buying without a discount and proceed to tell people to walk without a 40%. Where is it that you say to walk without 40% on a specific watch?

I would not touch current stock @ 15-20% with current pricing you will bleed at the eyes. As much as I love the current line up the losses are heartbreaking.
No mention of a specific product. Just generalized talk.
I purchased a PLOPROF Ti 1200in January this year*. I have loved this watch for many many years love wearing it now. But my advice is: minimum 40% discount or walk away
*These comments of yours were back to back. You casually throw out there that you bought this watch but never say “I would have walked on it had they not given a 40%.” Or “only buy specific models with a 40% discount.” Instead, after throwing out there that you bought a watch, you go back to broad advice.

Where in UK are you!

Birmingham, West Midlands. Planning on a visit to WOS & the OB in the next week or so. 20% would be ideal, if realistically achievable.

i agree. That level of discount would mean buying at close to AD ‘cost’ - really only seen when an AD wants to shift a turd that nobody wants to buy.

Which, in this case seems to be what happened. He said the watch sat in the AD for two years. Because it’s a reissue and therefore not highly sought after, that’s a long time for an AD to sit on something.

Also:
And I did not say you could get 40%.

You're right. You never said an AD would honor that request. However, saying to walk out if you don’t get 40% is implying that you could in fact get 40%.

I think that there are extremely rare circumstances whereby a discount of over 30% can be achieved, a closing down sale, clearance line, promotional line sale. I got 20% plus some nice goodies when I bought my watch on Friday, the OB was asked for more off the price but declined, I was happy with 20% discount as getting this much off a luxury watch is rare in the UK, jewellery yes but watches not often.
