Hello everyone, Im new to collecting universal genève. I wanted to get some knowledge on vintage UG. I'm looking at a Bi-Compax caliber 285 made in the 50s An wondering the differences in uni-compax/compur. Are they just the same just different dials, sizes and caliber's?

Redial, movement looks pretty bad. I think you should go through the threads in this forum and/or buy a sala book.

I'm glad I posted here before buying it. it's a frankenstian watch non original case, non original dial, I'm assuming the movement is the same. I had a feeling something was not right when I saw the $900.00 price tag.

You saw the price and alarms went off. Good. Collectible Uni Compax or Compur sell for far more. UG fans here took about a nano second to reject this watch. You need to train yourself to do that. Sala plus this forum will help you get there. Be aware that on occasion we have hung juries on some models. Do not venture into this market until you have done your homework. The good stuff is in collections. There is a lot of junk out on e bay, etc. The other point, is that you need access to a good watchmaker with a strong parts network.
