Omega Speedmaster 105.012 - 66CB with extract (delivered to NAAFI)...Dinged bezel..Scratched case..Service winding crown, otherwise all original.. Breitling 765 AVI 1965..Gorgeous patina..In all round collector condition.. ..One has to go.. Which one and why in your opinion..
Sell : Speedy Why : accept a low offer off me. Seriously, sell the Breitling, leaves a diver & driver - nice pair to alternate.
Of those two I would sell the speedy, BUT considering it purely economically I would consider selling the sub. Submariners are easier to sell and move faster. Trying to sell an okish, albeit rarer 66-CB in a market where okish condition speedies are slow to sell or sell for less what you want for it, is a tough task imo. The breitling would be a keeper in my books. But then again , I guess the main question is what to you wear the least of those?
Breitling in general is such an underrated/under appreciated brand, possibly due to the amount of fake watches out there. But in my book, I'd never even consider to sell a 765 AVI, let alone in such beautiful conditions. Sell the Speedy without hesitations. What are the odds of finding another pristine 765 AVI? Also, how many people do you meet with a Speedy on their wrist and how many with a 765? Don't follow the herd (please don't ban me for saying this in an Omega forum ahah)
It depends on what else you have in your collection. If that's all of it, I would keep the Speedmaster. The Breitlling is iconic, but the Speedmaster is more so.
If you consider which would be easiest to replace if you later change your mind, it would be the Rolex. It may be pricey, but there would be plenty to choose from. Not easy at all to replace the other two. Sell the Rolex!
True... but... The speedmaster is ubiquitous. The 765 AVI is not. The 765 AVI is perhaps the greatest reference from its manufacture. The 105.012 is not.
I'm letting myself in for trouble here, but.... The appeal of the Speedmaster lies in the particular stylistic wholeness of dial, case and bezel which is unique to that watch. I find the Breitling bezel stylistically at odds with its dial, being bold and extraverted whereas the dial is quiet and understated. I haven't seen one in real life and might regard it differently if I did, but for me the greatest Breitling chronograph design is the Mk1 Top Time 810. But that's down to personal taste and it doesn't help OP decide which one he likes best. I don't think we're going to be able to do that!
That brietling is sublime and pre-dates the modern busy and gaudy dials. Keep it for sure. Sell that rolex - in a New York minute.
I'd keep the Breitling to be honest. I think it is easier to find a speedy in the future if you want than that Breitling in this condition.
I'm still not very familiar with the 765 AVI, so I want to ask... why is this ref so lauded ? "Why a 105.012" I can think of many reasons but "Why a 765" I don't know about. I like it too, but just because of aesthetics. But I feel like I'm missing some really good reason why.
Well, for one thing, if you ever wanted to replace that 765 AVI with one of equal quality, you would have to be extremely patient.
True, and speedy of equal quality would be not as hard since they do surface more than the 765. I haven't seen 765 offered in ages... (or maybe I just don't know where to look.)
