I use these guys http://www.laboratorioportanova.eu/?lang=en in Bologna for my case work, they laser welded the case back threads and case threads on my Tudor snowflake, the work was perfect and the service outstanding, not cheap but superb work.
Tom mentioned Rocco too, I have only heard good things about his work.
Good luck with this.

I've put a call out to a few people I know in case the guy doesn't come good (which I have to be honest isn't looking great) to see if I can find anyone with a 2998-61 case back, I know a few guys in the UK and europe with spares so you never know

It can't end here, can it? I must say that the family feel of this forum is its most attractive feature. By far IMO. Okay, that and the amazing wealth of expertise, but still, that expertise combined with that family feel is what makes this forum a very, very special place. I even look at the "non-made" men and women who must still sell on the Private Watch forum (admittedly, you do need to have a decent amount of posts) as safe because, after-all..........who would jeopardize their relationship with this family for a quick buck?!?!?!? I really appreciate what the core group and moderators have created here, but how can it sustain if this person is allowed to remain a part of the family? Bet others feel the same. Name names please.

I feel for you OP. I hope it all works out. I think going to the mods is the right thing. integrity is a key characteristic of this forum and one of the things that sets it apart from others. lack of it will not go unpunished in some form or fashion I think.

I think the term 'crap' pretty much sums it up.
Rough deal. Sincerely hope you can get this resolved with as little pain as possible.

Very much appreciated. I have also dropped a note to Preik to see if they would do a see through back.

Thank you to all.

Cheers

Hope your able to get this successfully resolved.

Awhile back I bought what was advertised as a transitional 861 from ebay, when I eventually opened the watch to inspect it, it turned out it was a 321 dial without dial feet and stuck onto the 861 movement. The movement also later turned out to be from a MkII Speedmaster.

Seller feigned surprise that he knew nothing about the issues with the watch, I could have sent it back but eventually decided to keep the watch and use it all for spares 😁

Hope your watch turns out much better as I'm sure the costs are significantly higher

I may have a lead, would a 2998-2 back be appropriate?

That's an idea...Specially as you don't want to flip it. It certainly will help remind you what you went through to get it

Hi Tom, I really appreciate your thoughts and effort. It would fit but the serial number of the watch is too late for a 2998-2 which would drive me crazy. I really do appreciate the thought though. In the mean time I will pursue the laser welding option and Preik case back until all of the stars align and I find a 2998-61 case back😀

Subscribed. Please name to make sure none of the rest of us deal with this seller. Not just on this forum but on any other forums we may frequent. Most of the time we use the same handle across forums so that we are recognized.

As there has been no further communication since Wednesday evening and it appears that my only choices are to either fix the watch myself or lodge a claim with PayPal (which will be complicated as the deal involved the trade of another watch). I feel that I have tried to resolve without advertising the seller however I now feel that I have been left no choice. The individual involved is "The Master of Speed" and I still hold a glimmer of hope that there can be a satisfactory resolution to this as I have met and dealt with Matteo on previous occasions and thought that he was an honourable person.

I thought this was going to have a satisfactory outcome but unfortunately it seems thats not going to happen. What with the initial wrong movement, then with the damaged case and now deciding not to communicate 🙁

This is shabby beyond belief, Master of xxxx defiles the very integrity of the watch he attempts to associate himself with, but isn't it heartening how OF members not only support BM in his predicament but offer to mitigate the worst consequences, I do hope the Mods are following this thread

So BM, now that this is an open issue, I'm curious,
what initially happened with the movement pieces
changing and what was the explanation of the seller?

The agreement to the deal was that he would change the dial and hands from another watch before shipping because he wanted to keep his dial and hands. I was OK with that as the dial and hands were appropriate and correct for the watch. When I received the watch and noticed everything else had been changed we had a number of mail exchanges with the final response below:

"Ok i can change the movement
Is not a problem for me
Send me the watch
Usually i dont change movement
Is only to make a fast change without put off the dial and hands"

Considering what needed to be altered in the movement to do this I could not see how it would be any quicker but was prepared to give the benefit of the doubt.

Sad, sad story. What a disgrace to be selling watches this way. Hope it gets all sorted out!
