How in heaven can it be a different movement but with the same serial number, and there be no intention to deceive? 馃槙

That certainly is a big mistery that we would like to know.......馃嵖

This is the obvious tell that was mentioned as 'symmetrical' versus 'assymetrical' - I believe it's what Al called the coupling yoke:

Each of the illustrated movements has a different number, But in the sales photo the number of the better proper movement is not shown, The number given to Barking is on the watch he got, But he was deceived by the picture of the nice shiny proper movement in the ad.
This happens all the time on eBay. Sellers think all they have to do show what a particular movement or watch looks like so the buy can see that. It is laziness, not wanting to go to the trouble to photograph the actually movement. "After all what do buyers know or care" Well that type of crap does not work well selling t a WIS. It is not an effort to deceive, it is just not caring.

Hope everyone has this now.

I think it's a Coupling Wheel Bridge? Can't find a reference to the 321 part name, but curiously the one in the second pic is more like the 1861 part. The one in the first is truer to the 321 diagram.

So it is 861 coupling yoke / coupling wheel bridge used as replacement in 321

That is what I just said.

The movement number is shown in both pics but I obscured.

Cheers

It's abundantly clear which essential part was switched. And while I've stopped there and don't know if anything else was replaced/changed I'll just call the changed part coupling yoke per Al (instead of driving wheel/arm assembly thinggy)

Glad this seems to be moving toward resolution. The sooner the better.

The serial number is on the escape wheel bridge, so the escape wheel bridge has been swapped from the better movement to the lesser one. To do this, you have to remove the coupling yoke assembly (yoke, wheel and bridge)

Putting the escape wheel bridge back on the wrong movement is not something that happens by accident unless you strip both movements down and mix up all of the parts.

Both were 321 parts, the symmetrical one was used in earlier years the asymmetrical one on later years

The whole assembly, with the arm, the cock, and the wheel, is called the coupling yoke (or sometimes the coupling clutch).

So Barking was induced to buy a watch by a picture of another watch different to the one he understood to be getting . . . . . . well I'd still give deception a run, misrepresentation definitely . . . . . . but whatever the technicalities it seems to me to be a very shady way of doing business and even if it's commonplace on Ebay, I would not expect it from a forum member. Coming in the wake of recent scams this leaves a very sour taste and I hope it's resolved quickly

INHO this current discussion further enhances the reputation OF has as an amazing place to discuss, buy and sell watches (for me, Speedmasters, in particular).

The transparency here I like, it's great actually and I'm hoping all concerned with the vitality of discussion and security/reliance of the forum will be encouraged by the seller's response to Pete. I'll continue to assume the seller is reliable and look forward to seeing this issue being resolved with the utmost care, transparency and honesty. Yeah, you may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one ....

Well, I give up. I am not sure of what is what anymore, except that Barking did not get exactly what he thought he was buying.

Still ongoing. I am on holiday at the moment without the watch but hope to have a final resolution in about three weeks. Will keep all posted.

Cheers
