Two pics same serial but different?

Something major has happened. As Al suggests, this might have been a service as very few of the screw heads are in the same orientation and there looks to be further loss of plating (with more about to peel off) on the barrel & train wheel bridge.

Different newer movement in the second picture. Beside newer, it is dirty looking and different parts. Sometimes sellers use other pictures for convenience if it is the same caliber. Never a good idea.

That was my first thought but the shape of the remaining plating behind the hammer seems too similar to be a different movement.

I know that if I had bought this watch based on the condition in the first photo, I would be very upset if the one I got was the one in the second photo.

+1. Might be a stock picture is used but the movements are 100% sure not the same.

yet the serials are the same? I'd like to see more pics of the received watch in better lighting.

Almost any other movement part they'd be able to swap and nobody would know or care, its just unfortunate that it happens to be *that* part, the most easily recognisable part for dating these movements.

Nope, but judging by the tread title...?

What might help is if Barking Mad could examine the EXIF data on the original pic (if there is any). There's nothing for the uploaded image but it might have been stripped by the forum, if some exists on the original then it might shed some light on when the original picture was taken.

No the serial of watch matches what was offered for sale but the pictures don't match there is no serial in the first picture from the sale ad.

Exactly where, I don't see it.

The script on the balance bridge does not seem to match to me.

Maybe it is me, but I still don't see any special similarity.

Here they are with another watch added.

Sales pics show a very clean movement. The other pic: look at the screws 😀

I still feel that may just be due to lighting, for the most part anyway.

I would say that the watch had been serviced between the first and the second pics as most of the screw slots are now in a different position.
could it be possible that the dull surface of many parts come from a too harsh cleaning solution?

I now know it is a different movement. We now working to a resolution which I hope overcomes the issue. I will inform all when in a position to do so. It would appear being done not to deceive but still not done in the right way.

Cheers

"I now know it is a different movement"

I'd be interested to hear an explanation as to why this has happened, with no intention to deceive, but without prior discussing matters or mentioning it as an afterthought and waiting for the purchaser to discover it - it's fortunate (and I assume) that Bm has the equipment/tools to open the watch - I don't and I suspect neither do many other OF members . . . . . . . when otherwise might it have come to light?

How in heaven can it be a different movement but with the same serial number, and there be no intention to deceive? 😕
