Tudor serial numbers are not generally the same as Rolex (although perhaps they coincided before the Rolex serial reset in the mid-50s, this remains controversial). It's not easy, but you can find some good research on the internet, and combining various design aspects and the serial number, you can probably get an approximate date. But don't expect precision. Things seem somewhat better researched starting in the 60s, and then there was a Tudor reset in the mid-80s.

That is a Rolex chart, Tudor is completely different. Also, A Tudor wont have a date on the inside of the case back in those years. Unfortunately, the Tudor chart doesnt go back far enough but you can make an educated guess from it based on the pattern.

1960.................... 28xxxx
1961.................... 34xxxx
1962.................... 34xxxx
1963.................... 39xxxx
1964.................... 43xxxx
1965.................... 43xxxx
1966.................... 56xxxx
1967.................... 59xxxx
1968.................... 62xxxx
1969*................... 68xxxx
1970.................... 74xxxx
1971.................... 75xxxx
1972.................... 77xxxx
1973*................... 79xxxx
1974*................... 81xxxx
1975*................... 83xxxx
1976*................... 84xxxx
1977.................... 86xxxx
1978*................... 88xxxx
1979*................... 90xxxx
1980*................... 93xxxx
1981*................... 95xxxx

My new to me Tudor 4463. Now away for service and hand relume, i very much look forward to it's return. Movement is a cal 59 (FHF 30-1). Case back number 531300.
Edit: had error in original post, thanks Dan, yes, I thought late 1940's.

Rose in Shield logo would be 1940s IIRC.

As I mentioned. 1950s, no. 1940s, yes. 😁 (But not late 1940s.)

One of mine. Rare bird, I think. Hands might be replacements.

I agree, it screams 40’s to me. In overall style and appearance.

Why is it rare?

It’s a presentation watch from 1962. Waffle dial and the “Explorer” number layout are both uncommon. This one has its original domed crystal, too. I have its brother — Canadian market Rolex dress Explorer, also from 1962. Box and papers. Alas, the lacquer on the dial has deteriorated and taken some of the printing along with it. I saw a black dial example with the same problem.

According to Tudor’s own web site, the “rose in shield” logo was used between 1936 to 1947

Gorgeous!!
Thank you! I got lucky a few years ago was walking around an estate sale and stumbled upon this for 100 bucks! Unfortunately too small for me but a neat little watch and came with a vintage rolex box, not sure if this is the original box maybe others can tell?

That looks like a very well preserved watch — so great to find one that’s been looked after.

The box looks fine to me.

I go to lots of estate sales. But here, the mechanical watches are almost always pulled out in advance, for the heirs, or sometimes for local dealers.

My 4463 back from service. Strange circular stress crack in the paint through the numbers doesn't really bother me as it almost looks part of the design when on the wrist 😀
