This is the kinda stuff that keeps a watch “fan” with limited knowledge away from vintage. And these Tudors catch my eye as well. There is just too much tomfoolery going on with these things. It’s tough out there, high water everywhere.

I used to own a Tudor 76100, but with the blue bezel. While I'm not an expert on Tudor, there are several things here that seem surprisingly odd to me. First, I notice from your picture that this Tudor is supposed to be a "Lollipop," but the "T Swiss Made T" marking strikes me as unusual. I would have expected it to say "T Swiss T." Additionally, the font for "Submariner" looks strange compared to others I've seen. When I search "Tudor 76100 movement" on Google, there are aspects in the pictures you shared that don’t align with the many examples readily available online. As I mentioned, I'm no Tudor expert, but anyone can do some due diligence using public resources, especially since the Tudor 76100 isn’t exactly a rare piece.

They are fairly modern but in certain examples, they can look quite vintage (if that is the look you are going for).
Couldn't agree more with this sentiment, and it's actually what keeps pulling me back to these 76100 / 79090 referenec

Agree there are a lot of foolery going on with these, but I'm thankful for communities like OF that help each other when we need a second, third, or fourth set of eyes to double check.
The crown is fake as well
It was looking strange to me as well but thanks for the confirmation

Appreciate your reply, but not sure if you had a chance to read my initial concerns written in the first post but many of the issues you note I point out in my original post.

The Lollipop hour hand was not much of a concern to me as Rolex has been know to replace the lollipop hand with a Mercedes style hand during a service as the the lollipop lume was known to fall apart.

The "T Swiss Made T" font caught my eye as well, noted in the OP, but not for the placement. I've seen quite a few 76100 references with service hands and dials that have this style of dial. I believe this dial design was introduced on late 79090 and used through 79190 examples, see picture below of an example with this dial. So my assumption was when looking at the watch originally was that it had a service early on and the dial and hands were replaced. Which since I was planning on this being a daily wearer I was open to a watch that had service parts if it was at the right price.

What caught my eye on the dial though was as you also noted the font style, again noted in my OP. Not only was the font style peculiar for "SUBMARINER" but also for all the rest of the font. Font on my watches is something that I tend to obsess over, so when looking at the dial of the watch offered to me I immediately noticed that none of the font had Serif style font that is so commonly seen on these Tudor Submariners (ref. 7016 thru 79190). Which is why noting that I'm not an expert I brought it to the OF group to see if someone knew something I was unaware of and could learn more about.

Also I notice you recently joined the forum. Welcome! Hope you're enjoying it here.

I'm not really sure what the point of this sentence was other than to come across a bit condescending / passive. Maybe that wasn't the intent, but IMHO it reads that way. As a friendly word to the wise, we're all here out of an enthusiasm for watches / horology and many of us have done plenty of research before posting. Tudor Submariners can be a tricky area to be looking with all the fakes out there, and asking for a second opinion can definitely save a costly mistake. There are quite a few of the members here who are very adept collectors and OF is a great opportunity where one can come ask questions to ask for advice, opinions, etc.

Okay OF, back for a little further help. Rather than start a new thread and since I’m still looking at Tudor Submariner but this time an early 79090. So I thought it best to adjust the thread title and just post the photos here. I was able to handle the watch in person today and from my eye it’s looking good to me but want to hear from you all.

@vibe & @Slevin kelevra I’d very much welcome your opinions on this example if you’ve got the time.

My observations:
  • Dial and typography appear correct truth the T-Swiss-T as well as the bold m and ft in the depth rating.
  • Lume looks like an attractive color although there appears to be some pitting on the hour hand
-Bezel looks good although the pip has patinated differently than the dial.
  • Case back engraving looks to be with the correct font style (apologies for the poor lighting)
  • Case sides have been polished but for the most part the lugs are still thick and in all honesty I’m okay with a little polish history
  • Bracelet has some stretch and scratch but overall it’s fine in my opinion for its age and I can always get it refurbished.
  • Movement appears to have the correct components @vibe previously noted it should have but let me know if I missed something.

Okay now the part we all want, the photos:
