Tudor Submariner - Seeking Advice

Hi OF,

I’ve been in the hunt for a Tudor Submariner, either a 76100 or 79090, and was offered this one today. It’s offered by a seller I know well, who has sold some watches for me in the past and whom I’ve bought from. So I have no reason to doubt them nor am I posting here to cause any doubt. Posting merely as I’m not an expert on these and with all the fakes of these Tudor subs out there, I figured I’d post here for those with more experience eyes and hopefully enlist some help. Only a couple things catch my eye to cause a little question.
  • Hour hand is not a snowcone hand, but that could be easily explained as this was serviced early on and they swapped to a mercedes hand as the snowcone/lollipop hands were notorious for falling apart.
  • 200m = 600ft Font style, I have only seen a few examples of 76100s with this style font
  • T SWISS MADE T font location, I have only seen these on late 79090 references and 79190 examples
  • Caseback Font, I've only ever seen serif style fonts for these case backs of these and this one appears to be sans serif style font.
  • Mid Case appears to have been polished, lug chamfers are wider than I've seen before and the lugs from the back don't have the standard straight across lug style as I've seen before.

Maybe it's totally kosher and I'm just overthinking it. What do you all think? Any issues that would make you stay away from it?

I’m far from being an expert on these, but what's going on with the pip lume? Is it the lighting or was that relumed at some point?

My biggest concern would be buying a watch from someone wearing short wool ankle socks with Crocks, showing way too much upper thigh and sitting in a skanky stairwell with what appears to be a rolling laundry basket? I’ve learned far more about this person than I have about their watch from these pictures.

Same here regarding expertise. But that was something I noticed it too. It’s definitely a very different shade than the dial lume.

Haha I choose to ignore the fashion and photo background choices, but you make some valid observations. 🤣

Not legit. Case back is not right. The movement is wrong. There is an incabloc + etacron but there should be a kif and triovis.

Something does feel wrong with this watch. Incorrect spring bars are very minor but sets alarm bells ringing straight away.

Lume pip is far from original or genuine and the bezel insert is definitely not original to the watch.

IMO the caseback looks fake, far too thick. Case backs on 76100 are slim compared to an Rolex Sub.

I would also say the crystal isnt genuine. Its not tall enough. Yes, the 76100 and 79090 crystals were not as tall as Rolex 1680 for example but the crystal on this watch just does not look correct.

Not at all an expert, but this watch has too many red flags. I've never seen a 76100 with the T Swiss Made T placed where it is here, and the caseback, as noted, is incorrect.

@Slevin kelevra & @Wlcutter The case back and the bezel were also causing some major doubt for me as well as the dial font styles since I’ve never seen the sans serif style on a legit 76100.

@vibe appreciate the note on the movement. Glad to learn something new about these movements.

Thanks all I really appreciate the responses. I decided to pass on it for many of the noted concerns as well as my own gut feeling on the watch.

Good move passing on that one. The 76100 and the later 79090 are cool watches that sit somewhere in no mans land in terms of Subs. They are fairly modern but in ccertain examples, they can look quite vintage (if that is the look you are going for). Ive had a few 79090 and 76100 blue dials and I have a 14060m also and they do feel like different enough watches to warrant both.

It was the Croc’s with wool socks, wasn’t it? I wouldn’t be able to get past that either.
