So, I’ve been following the auction for this watch. The original listing didn't provide much detail other than the fact that the bracelet is a rare Rolex 7206/58, along with the photos I’ve attached here. I did some digging and concluded that it’s likely an early 60s 7928 with rounded crown guards, minute graduations printed in a circle, and silver/white inscriptions. The pip in the bezel is not like it's supposed to be and no "long five" either. Lots of pitting in the case and dial seems quite damaged. No T's so I thought this is a radium lume dial. Watch seems to be running looking at the seconds hand moving from picture to picture. Here are the pictures:

Later on, an authenticity certificate was added to the listing, detailing the reference and serial numbers. I’ll share those details with you later, but I have to say, I was very surprised and confused by them. Nevertheless, the auction house expert stated the watch is authentic.
What do the experts here think? Which model are we looking at, and does everything look 'correct' to you?

Pics of the inside and between the lugs would make me feel better.

The 7206 bracelet seems to be marked 7206 on the last link, so it's not early 60s. Maybe mid 60s. The blade should have a date code.

dial is no good, insert is no good. caseback doesn't look good either. as others stated, need to see inside caseback and movement to make more determination. hands might be ok.

To make things really exciting, this is what they stated in the proof of authencity:
Ref. 92200
Cal. ETA 2483
Serial: 845110
Year: 1967

Considering that the ref. 92200, is a womens Oyster Princess with 25 mm x 31 case and serial indicates mid 70's, none of this makes sense. The bracelet could be from 1967, but thats about it.

Today the gave out a revised proof of authencity which stated ref. 7016/0 from 1967, but kept the serial the same. I looked it up and this ref. came out 1969 and was the first time Tudor used ETA movement again the 1967 and the serial don't add up.

The auction is closing on coming Sunday, so they seem quite optimistic with an 8000 € estimate/starting price, with all of this going on.

As popular as these Tudor Subs have become, I think one can get a much better example for 8000 Euro.

Top bid right now is 2600 €. Interesting to see what happens with this one on Sunday.

The current top bid with auction house's premium is 4500 €, with 15 h to go. At first I thought there might be a chance for a steal here, combining the value of the bracelet with the confusing information about the watch - but apparently not so I'm not entertaining the idea of bidding anymore.

Considering all the details, the watch seems to be a frankenwatch, with different time period parts in not so good condition. Anyone care to share their opinion on the value of this one, even as a parts watch?

Winning bid with premium: 5210 €
well that's ridiculous. maybe the "sale" will fall through, and you'll see it again at that auction house soon...

Thank you for comments on this thread! Just to be sure I follow - do you mean the price was ridiculously high for the condition, or is it a "steal" despite the issues? I'm trying to learn how to value this model, and the only thing I can tell for sure, is that some of these bracelets may go for up to 2800 €, not sure about this specific one... I know you gave really bad review of the watch from the pictures, but I can't tell if your reference point is collector grade condition or parts being genuine or not from this watch originally? I'd really appreciate any futher elaboration if granted any..? I'm especially curious if you think the parts (dial/bezel/caseback) are period-correct but just in poor condition, or if they are service replacements / franken parts?

~$6,000 seemed very high to me. The dial is poorly refinished (or fake), insert is fake, caseback to me looks fake, (bezel might be ok?). I don't like the taper of the sweep hand but photos are grainy on my end. As mentioned, would need to see inside caseback, between lugs etc for me to make a determination on the originality of the case. I can say that (in my experience of selling all of these parts recently) a very nice case/caseback/crystal of that vintage sells for under $2,000. The movement is another $700, bracelet is $2,500 or so. Hands, if real, are $350 or so.

Wow! Thank you very very much @southtexas for this next level breakdown of the model 🙏 A whole new perspect to valuating these in the future. Much appreciated. Can I ask even further more, what is the tell on the dial being fake or redial? Is it the white chapter ring?

it does not conform to known dial variants in several respects. here are a few good sites to help learn the differences:

Excellent links, thank you!

One of the sites I looked at before gave the impression that dial variants may have been more diverse without elaborating much, so I didn't know absolute no go's.

"Like all things there is a difference of opinion on these things; a new variation appeared only last year that we hadn’t seen before!"
- true or not, there is plenty to study as is, in hopes to recognize the good, the bad and the ugly.

This is a very interesting reference, and I will use these links to study and to compare in the future. Thank you for sharing!
