Trilogy LE values

How did Omega make a mistake when they basically sold them all? Sure, some may be sitting at OBs and ADs, but the ones at ADs were paid for. The only people suffering from the high # of watches are those who hoped the values would shoot up (and I admittedly am in the camp to a certain extent).

Me in person, I do not suffer in reply to your assumptions. But in general, the image of Omega suffers. And the very fact that this thread was started, proves me right. Mind you, IMHO nowadays there is almost no person that would readily slip over a thousand EUR for a wrist watch, and would expect on the very next day he/she would lose half of it. That’s the way the watch market looks like. And that is the reason why brands like PP and Rolex thrive and there are so many going down in the latest years.

Retail buyers simply shouldn't expect consumer goods to be an appreciating investment, especially in the short term.
As was mentioned, most examples have sold, so it is a manufacturing success story.

So you admitted being a speculator who was out for a killing when you bought your watch?

That’s a quote my friend. I so far have sold two IWC bought back 15 years ago, simply because I did not like them any more.

how can you argue with this?

Any if the trilogy is beautiful to behold whether on the wrist or not. The only thing I am not able to swallow is the TRILOGY inscription on the dial of the set. A subtle difference but an awful one as of me.

Yes I agree. That number on LE set dial was the most weirdest thing on a quality watch IMHO.

That was my quote. When the Trilogy/ 60th Anniversary watches came out, it was a toss-up to go for the watches individually or to go with the Trilogy set. The relatively lower numbers of the Trilogy won out for me over the extra text on the dials. I actually bought this to give to my son in another decade and a half. It will be his decision at some point whether to keep or sell; maybe they will have appreciated a lot, and maybe they will be worth next to nothing. But he likes watches, and the savings account pays next to nothing in interest, so why the heck not buy him some things during his journey through childhood that will result in him having more than just a check in his hand when I eventually kick?

IN-hand the text is less noticeable than large photos on the internet would have one believe, but I would have definitely preferred it to be engravings on the cases vs printing on the dials.

I think some buyers of the trilogy set managed to negotiate with Omega to replace the dials with plain ones. They also got the original ones as part of the package. I know at least 1 person that did it

And what’s the point getting the trilogy set if you are to Franken it? Just to have the same LE number on each of the set, but with a non-original dial? That is something I am not able to comprehend.

Don’t ask me. Also it is not Frankenstein in my definition. It was supported by Omega itself and I guess people still wanted to have all other features that came with trilogy set.

It’ll not be a franken watch at all since change of dial was made by Omega. There is added advantage of retaining the original dial as well. I’d have taken that if I had such information before.

IMHO anything that is not original makes it Franken. If dial was not even made by Omega then it would have been a FAKE one.

I beg to differ Sir. It cannot be FAKE as work was done by Omega and dial replaced was also original. Period

Back on task! You’re all supposed to be telling me how much / or little you think my watch is going to be worth in an hour, day, week, month, year, decade, and century.

😝
