Not sure about 861s as a whole, but the first 145.022-68 would be 26,555,xxx per mwo.

So let's see about the last three digits.

I'm sure I've seen 27mill serials in 145.012's. Not sure if they were correct though...

The '68 transitionals are nice. The '62s are beautiful.

I remember a thread with someone having a 145.012-68 in the 27 mil. range.

I think my 145.022 is a pretty early 861.

S/N - 26553691 (Correction - The correct S/N is 26558691)

Brilliant. I think that's about the earliest I've seen.

Interesting. Gemini4 has a 321 with 26,553,2xx

So within 26,553,xxx, there are both 321s and 861s.

Sometime you have to man up when you make a mistake and since the transitional is my favorite reference I could not let the incorrect information sit out here.

I went back to post a picture of the movement and noticed I wrote down the wrong number when I looked at Al's service pictures 3 years ago. Let the thread stand corrected that my 145.022-68 S/N# is 26558691 which brings it more in line with the documented transitional serial numbers.

Might as well post this one too...

I know I am pulling up an old thread, but I couldn't help it. It is weird to me that a 321 movement with a lower serial number has a production date almost 4 months AFTER an 861 movement with a higher serial number. Maybe these were sitting on a shelf somewhere in the factory? Maybe someone came by and said "we have to ship these outta' here".

So there (apparently) isn't overlap in serial numbers. However there is (quite a bit of) overlap in production dates. I would say that lends credence to oddboy's postulation that 861 serial numbers started at 26,xxx,000. I bet someone had to count the remaining 321 movements; they then defined that 861 numbers start at the next even 1000.

It is also really cool that the 321 was manufactured only 2 weeks before the moon launch.

Pretty cool, 14 weeks and 5 days apart.. 😀

I too would be curious to know if anyone knows about the actual switchover to 861, logistically.

I'm going to drift but hopefully not too far off topic 😉

I have a 145.012 with a 23 or 25 start, I'm guessing it has to be 25?

I'd say 25,x from that pic. I dont think I've see speedmaster with a 23,x.

Is 26,5555xx the earliest we've seen so far for a Transitional then?
