I'd say 25,x from that pic. I dont think I've see speedmaster with a 23,x.
I'll see if I can get a sharper picture.

Interesting. Gemini4 has a 321 with 26,553,2xx

So within 26,553,xxx, there are both 321s and 861s.
I have a 145.012-67 with 26,553,9xx.

Hi All - heres my 26557XXX w/ 861 - photo credit to prior owner.

Nice watch. The tall Tachy DNN bezel has some nice patina / ghosting.

Bluemartinifan, do you know the backstory on the bezel? As I have just learned, general consensus is -68s came with DON not DNN

No history. Likely DON replaced at service or by prior owner. Just sold this one. The case and dial were exceptional.

And while we're at it what's the latest serial number the transitional has been seen at?

Speedmaster101 says 26m or 27m.

Mwo says 26,555,xxx to 27,719,xxx.

Rasputin says 28,0xx,xxx based on my transitional. I am curious if anyone has -69 that has an earlier serial than 28,0xx,xxx.

Does Rasputin have an extract showing his movement was born in the '68 case?

I remember holding an immaculate-looking transitional in my hand at a watch fair about 3 years ago - the seller wanted £2700 for it and I didn't know what I was looking at, back then... It seemed a lot of money at the time.

d'oh!

This fascinating thread got me rummaging around for my 145.012-68 to find it's serial number.
Turns out to be 2732029* is that the highest c.321 yet? I've just ordered the extract to make sure it fits the case, although there seem to be a few in this range so should be good.

nice! yes, 27,320,xxx is considered valid for a 145.012-68 as I understand it. of course an Extract would be nice, even though it won't specify the sub-reference (-68). You have probably one of the last 321 speedmasters there...

Hi gang,

I love the transitional references. I think it's cool to see one reference morph into the next.

I thought I'd share two -68's. They look almost the same, but inside, they are quite different.

Stepped dials, applied logos, long indices, DON bezels, baton hands.

Single stepped casebacks with hippocampus.

On the left, a 321. On the right, an 861. Different references in the casebacks too.

Post some pics of transitional references you have!

Here are mine: Big Red Sigma and of course a '68 (waiting on an incoming DON to make it right).
