Hi OF,

Seamaster 2846 with a "train wreck" Cal 501. Check out the screws!

Should I buy this for U$D200?

Yes you should, the dial alone is worth multiples of that.

Also this a 2846 with centre seconds, the 2848 has sub seconds.

I find the black half waffle dial one of the nicest possible variants for this reference and have one myself. I paid double what your's costs for mine and still consider myself very fortunate indeed!

Wow.

You can get a replacement 501 movement for ~150$ every now and then on eBay. So if you intend to wear it this might be an option. If it’s just about the money don’t do anything with it and flip it for a multiple of what you paid. Either way, can’t go wrong with 200$ for one of the finest dial variations of a very classic vintage Omega. Nice deal!

/oh, and: Dibs 😁

Hope you keep it, bring it back to life and wear the hell out of it though. Very special piece!

Absolute yes! I own this reference as well and the caseback is a joy in itself.

Other than some nasty scratches and the remains of the gasket being all over it, is anything actually wrong with the movement?

Scratches all over, loss of plating, gouging. It would seem that it has been in the hands of a pretty shitty watchmaker, so I wouldn't expect anything from it.

Yes, for one the regulator spring is broken off. The screws are all chewed up, and some areas around the screw heads in the plates are gouged up. The rotor appears to be rubbing on the inside of the case back, and it's unclear how much of the black seen is gasket v. evidence of rust.

Seems like a good deal for the price. I say go for it.

Looks about as good as the one that’s currently in your watch. 😁

They’re not readily available like a new factory replacement product, but with some patience (meaning: a few weeks, maybe months - not a few hours) can be found. If you get a replacement, why not wait for one that’s in great shape? The watch has been around for over half a century, it won’t mind another bit of waiting.

Thank you.... (what you mean is relax kid!) I have time and 5 other vintage SM to wear in the meantime! 😀

A cal 500 would work as well. My 2846 . . .

. . . has one.
