How close does a tornado have to get to Archer on the tennis court before he runs for cover?
Very! 馃槑

The shelf cloud rolled in first last night...

All courts emptied but ours, and it passed overhead. Played a good 40 minutes after that cloud appeared before the rains came. We could hear a rushing wind sound at one stage, so I was keeping an eye out for the funnel clouds...

You could feel the temperature drop as the cold front moved through - good thing as the humidiex was 42C when we started playing.

The hail on the drive home was brutal. We tried pulling into a gas station to get under the covers at the pumps, but it was full of cars all doing the same thing. Thankfully it was not my car but a loaner my wife has as her car is in the shop.

the world is a scary place! Hurricanes, Tornados, lightening storms.
In an earlier life I used to be a Radio Communications technician and spent most of my time on mountain top radio stations, some of those radio stations were not of a high standard, one particular site was a small old wooden structure which had endured countless direct lightening strikes with the evidence clearly visible with evaporated copper deposits on the walls and racks where cabling had used to be before being vapouried by direct lightening strikes.
On one particular maintenance visit on a nice hot sunny day we started work, within an hour or so unbeknownst to us a storm had rolled in, the first lightening strikes hit our hut and blew out the power with an almighty boom leaving us in the pitch black, my first thought was " am I alive" once ascertained that I was we hurriedly left the hut for a newer substantial concrete building which was being constructed some 150 metres away from our dodgy wooden hut.
Sprinting between buildings there were 2 ground strikes within 30 metres from us, possibly closer we weren't hanging around to count the distance lol. Making shelter at the new building we quickly made the decision to leave the Mountain top as hail storms often follow lightening and sure enough the hail started as we left literally 2 inches thick in the space of minutes.

We don't know how lucky we are but disaster can appear from blue sky's in a heart beat.
With recent events in Nepal this is really highlighted, those people had no chance against what was coming, no amount of preparation could have altered their out comes so fast was the oncoming event.

Thanks, but I鈥檒l stick with Chinooks (warm winter winds travelling from the west, over the Rocky Mountains). And less so, the - 40掳 C (- 40掳 F) on the odd occasion. The Canadian prairies are not notorious for tornados, but we get the odd one.

My bugout watch would have to be my Tudor GMT.
Rugged, automatic, date function, decently water resistant, good lume, GMT hand so I will know if it is AM or PM if I have to be underground for a long period of time...and I'm not talking tornados....馃

We got power back yesterday afternoon after about 72 hours. Lost the contents of the freezer. I think I wore my Speedmaster most of the time - it was useful for timing how long I was charging my phone at my next door neighbor's house (he has a generator). But in answer to Steve's question, I'd probably grab my Submariner - the lume could practically be a flashlight in a blackout.

On an entirely different subject, nice Eames chair!

Whatever is on when the warning is issued. Changing watches is not a priority
