the world is a scary place! Hurricanes, Tornados, lightening storms.
In an earlier life I used to be a Radio Communications technician and spent most of my time on mountain top radio stations, some of those radio stations were not of a high standard, one particular site was a small old wooden structure which had endured countless direct lightening strikes with the evidence clearly visible with evaporated copper deposits on the walls and racks where cabling had used to be before being vapouried by direct lightening strikes.
On one particular maintenance visit on a nice hot sunny day we started work, within an hour or so unbeknownst to us a storm had rolled in, the first lightening strikes hit our hut and blew out the power with an almighty boom leaving us in the pitch black, my first thought was " am I alive" once ascertained that I was we hurriedly left the hut for a newer substantial concrete building which was being constructed some 150 metres away from our dodgy wooden hut.
Sprinting between buildings there were 2 ground strikes within 30 metres from us, possibly closer we weren't hanging around to count the distance lol. Making shelter at the new building we quickly made the decision to leave the Mountain top as hail storms often follow lightening and sure enough the hail started as we left literally 2 inches thick in the space of minutes.
We don't know how lucky we are but disaster can appear from blue sky's in a heart beat.
With recent events in Nepal this is really highlighted, those people had no chance against what was coming, no amount of preparation could have altered their out comes so fast was the oncoming event.
