With Tokyo Olympics pushing through against all odds, i was aching to pick one on this series as this release somehow has imprinted in itself a sense of history. but, got overtaken by the price increase. 🙁

I'm still very tempted to get one too, more for the fact that 2020 was the year my daughter was born. But I'd like to see the watch in the flesh first and that's a challenge in itself as my idea of checking one out on my next business trip to Japan has gone out the window!

Can anyone say how it wears to say the 44.5mm Racing Speedie (which is my current favorite piece)?

I could not agree more.

One of the earlier posts said that the watches are wrongly stamped. They are not. Having the Olympic games postponed for a year is anomaly. Watches are all the same, no anomalies whatsoever. The event they celebrate is anomalous.

What I meant was that these watches celebrate the 2020 Olympics that did not happen in 2020. You are right that the event itself is an anomaly and these watches reflect that. We may see in couple of years that this anomaly is actually sought after. My OB sold all watches connected with 2020 Olympics soon after the event was postponed in 2020.

I happen to own both. I put in pictures of both on my wrist that is just over 17cm. I find the 44mm to be more comfortable but I think that's mostly because of the saphire case back. The racing version is also much more legible due to the slightly larger size and better use of contrasting colors. I appreciate this more due to aging vision. However, the Tokyo is in my opinion a more "beautiful" watch.

That's wicked!! Thanks VERY much indeed @richiv because that is the identical white face racing Speedie I have! Perhaps we'll have two matches watches in the very near future now! 😉

The watch is really nice and I think it's a huge adavtage that Tokio was postponed. It's a story to tell about a watch and as we know huge part of watch's prices is a good story, right? 😀

The Rising Sun is the only unworn watch I have in my collection. Just can't seem to bring myself to wear it... not sure why. It's definitely a beautiful Speedy, and my personal favorite of the Tokyo collection.

The event therefore is an anomaly and the watches reflect this. In terms of the Rising Sun, its unique design, the Japanese connotations and the event anomaly all add up.

What are the “Japanese connotations” aside from being an Tokyo Olympics watch?

You live in Japan? Or you’re speaking of some non-Speedmaster releases?

A 2c opinion:

As long as this keeps on happening (2T in the last year, 6T coming up), everything goes ‘up’.

TARP, QE1, 2, 3, infinity...is anyone keeping track? $20+T at last count....wealth transfer from the savers to the borrowers, so as long as the printing press runs, everything goes only one way....you guessed it ....TO THE MOON! Pun intended 😎

I have thrown my hat in and have one arriving tomorrow.

It's a great looking watch with a story to tell, a nickname and a unique colour scheme. These are the sort of factors which point to future desirability although I bought this as an interesting piece to wear.

I’m watching all the interest in Rising sun (I understand that and I have got one in my collection as well) but my personal guess is that the green bezel model will be more sought after in a few years. I’m considering buying this one too. Blue, black and white are just reeditions of existing LE IMHO… Rising sun and green bezel one are special Speedies.

I've got both the red and green (sorry for the crappy photo). I agree the Golden Jade will be the more desirable one longer term because a) in person, it looks way nicer than the red and b) is it so unique looking within the Speedmaster Pro lineup

The watch is known as the Rising Sun because of the red bezel. Japan is known as the land of the Rising Sun. The Japanese flag (Hinomaru) is a red circle on a white background and the 'Rising Sun' watch is the only one of the series that has a red bezel. Hence it is the only one of the series that makes me think/reminds me of Japan. That is what I meant by Japanese connotations.

I must say I think the green one is the ugliest of the bunch. Unique yes, but not in a good way. But that is what makes us all different as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Life would be boring if we all liked the same things.

Well the DHL guy has just been, nearly had a heart attack when I saw the state of the packaging but opened it up and all is good!

So my Rising Sun is officially here intact and I am very impressed, it looks even better in the flesh.

A few quick snaps prior to sizing and removing plastics/stickers.

Nice watch............The Tokyo Olympics, however, are an unmitigated disaster.....from the weather, the lack of spectators, the amount of political controversy to general apathy.......
