2018 seems over exaggerated with the Olympic Speedmaster. It's after all the same design?
Agreed, but for 2018 we still have seven unique LEs in one year, which is one more than the sum of all the Speedy LEs they released between 2010-2016.

As for chasing short-term profits, that gives the share price and cashflow an immediate boost. Swatch can take that to the bank.

Spot on. People are taking this very personally, and once again some are forgetting what the role of any corporation is - create/increase shareholder value. Nothing else matters unless it feeds into that goal, and I would say worrying about the reactions of collectors who own some other LE's that may drop in value is not even a consideration.

What may seem short sighted for the consumer doesn't matter. If the market likes what is happening, then Swatch is on the right path. They are more concerned about stock market analysts reactions than the watch owners.

Agreed with what Swatch are doing and how it makes sense for them in the short term and also they shouldn't care about value retention from a collector perspective.

However, as I have posted before, an excessive supply/ gloat of a supposedly scarce product could hurt the brand in the long term. Just look at what Disney has done with the absurd Star Wars franchise release cycle.

If this is just a quick cash grab by Omega during the end of the current economic cycle, and they then start restricting supply to a certain extent, well I can see no harm in the long term. At the end of the day Raynald and other Omega senior execs almost certainly have Omega stock...if the Hayek family don't want look ahead at the long term picture you can't blame their staff for focusing only on the short term wins.

Personally I did not purchase my XI-45 or #ST1 to sell in the future but to treasure and wear them. Both are keepers.

A LE that is only sold in Japan. If I recall correctly isn't another LE sold only in Japan quite sought after nowadays

With all the box of 5 being sold out within a day I don't think we are going to talk about these for long.

And where is it that Ultraman came from 😗😗

So three hot watches at the moment being the original ultramen, the Japanese racing original which are big $$$ and a newly released ultramen and there is pages of people worrying about a Japanese limited edition being released.......( And Rolex is making people wait 5 years for a SS sports watch ) 😉

Indeed mate, the Omega ship has certainly sailed, but I thought the Speedy LEs were going to be treated differently and kept in a Biel tower😀

ACE jewelers have put together a good collage of modern Speedy LEs released during the last decade 2008-2018. Although some LE designs are repeated (they do include both the single and collection set versions), when you look at the image below I think you do get a good idea as to how Omega have dramatically accelerated Speedy LE releases since 2017.😁
That chart looks worse than it is because they are posting the same watches twice that come individually and in numbered sets .

And that's just the speedies LE Looks like every idea at Omega gets a chance to be marketed. As long as it sells, who cares?

Yes but still, look at the dates. Also you can add the NUMBERED editions (FOIS, FOIS sedna) and the rest.

Of course it's not being done to piss people off, that's just silly. What is being done is chasing short-term profits at the expense of long-term customer relationships. Why should I buy the next $7,000 LE Speedmaster at MSRP from an Omega Boutique when I know it'll be trading for $5500 on the gray market after they re-release it?
Precisely! Not only that. What if you know mext Snoopy would appear every second year from now on? They would be lucky manage selling 2000 pcs LE from the third one onwards. As a matter of fact i believe they are tesing grounds with the new Apollo VIII. Mind you it is not a LE. Curious how much would they sell. I know for sure I wouldn’t be buying one.

My take is that while it will likely hurt resale value for certain editions, I don't think Omega's goal is for collector's to make money.

While I am personally disappointed, this is very true.
The flip side is making it impossible to get watches people want (Rolex, Patek).... who wants to pay 50k for a basic time only steel watch?
I guess that is what makes collecting interesting, you never know what will come next or what the future will hold. Nobody complains that their steel 5513 has gone up 400% in 5 years.
Mind you collectors never make money out of it. They just retain what was spent. Nothing else.

The past year has been a bit different so hard to say, but historically the summers were always dead and nothing moved from late May to early September.

Welcoming the new member, black and white!
No pleasure in seeing that. Imagine Tribute to Alaska matches well with Tokyo Olympic Games 2020!

LOL. Perhaps with a box set containing a miniature curling stone and broom and "Hurry Hard!" written on the dial?😁
