Is there any way to get a Rising Sun in the US, besides a 90% markup in the secondary market?

Through an actual Omega AD, at this point, no. Believe me, I've tried... If you love the watch though then just buy it, it'll be worth the premium to you if you really love it.

90% markup!?

Are any Tokyo 2020s actually transacting at $12,000, or are there only $12,000 ones left on market because they’re not moving at $12,000?

I thought the retail price was around $5500, and they seem to be going for $9000+ So, OK, that's more like 63% But that's still a hefty premium.

Actually retail is JPY 693,000, which is USD 6,720. Looking at the new regular Moonwatch price (sapphire at USD 7,150), I think all new upcoming 3861 LEs will even be 8,000-9,000 anyway (LEs usually +25% from regular Moonwatch).

Well...I guess that makes me feel a little better. 😀 So if I can find one for under $8000, I guess I'm doing good. Unless I find someone who happens to be visiting Japan in the near future...

Is it common knowledge that these are still available in Japan?

I was in Tokyo the day these were released in 2018, and it was not easy to get my hands on one - and I was not under the impression that any of the limited edition of 2020/variant would be languishing on ADs shelves for this long

I (and I think 2 others on here) purchased one recently from an AD in Japan on Chrono24, new with full 5 years warranty at a price (slightly) below RRP on negotiation - yes it took 3 weeks to arrive and I had to pay 20% import duty on its arrival into the UK but with the lower starting price it was still considerably cheaper than anyone selling one that they had acquired...in summary I paid in total close to RRP (just £450 or $600) over the Omega advertised price. I think AD's were not shipping out of Japan originally but i think they are prepared to now to get through their stock.

I wonder if such shipping is above board for a country-specific release such as this? Just morbid curiosity.

Mind noting which variants these were? I’m surprised any are left, but I suppose would be even more surprised if certain variants were left.

Just got the rising sun as well. A forum member here helped me out. It such an amazing watch. Pictures don't do it justice. I'm happy that I took the chance now that they are still affordable.

They are advertising availability of all models if i recall correctly - the guarantee has been registered to me as sold new to me at my UK address with Omega HQ by the AD - so it is all above board - mine was the Rising Sun (red), but as I say they have them all in stock, obviously at varying numbers but looks like they are all still available.

By the way I bought mine approx.10th Dec, and it arrived on 30th Dec from Japan to my door.

Thanks for the intel.

It’s certainly interesting to know that, over two years out from releasing only ~10,000 total, they’re still sitting on shelves in Japan.

Perhaps the cancelling of the games did more to cool their sales for “normal” buyers (I.e., other than us nerds who seem to find some collectible fascination with a watch commemorating an event that never occurred).

And to really go on a strafe, I wonder if there may be at play any cultural phenomenon with the Japanese buyers. Total conjecture, but this all has the trappings of the type of story where we’re later surprised to learn than the Japanese would tend to REALLY not want a watch commemorating a failed event (but would have snapped them up out of pride at a successful event). I suppose I’ll wonder aloud with some of my Japanese colleagues.

From what I understand (not great english by my selling AD in Japan) that the first 10 days or so after the sale where the item was still awaiting shipping, the delay was due to them waiting for the watch from Omega - so whilst I may have interpreted it incorrectly, my takeaway was that they are in stock with the manufacturer (national HQ) for AD's to order then sell on / ship...

I too wondered about the question that you raise about a cultural phenomenon for an event that didn't take place - the Olympics I understand will proceed this year, but to be honest even if they didn't, as others have said on this and other threads - the watch is an absolute stunner and I don't think you (like me) will care if the Olympics happen or not, or if there is a phenomenon or not because its so beautiful, almost jewelry like that you will undoubtedly love it no matter what the situation is regarding the event or what the value does in the future.

Regarding the question of future popularity between the five variants, anecdotally it appears that the rising sun is quite popular based on the recent posts. Will this mean that future collectors will hold it in greater value because it has the same appeal to them or will the odd ball and by future standards more rare green dial for example become more popular?

Just curious. Shouldn't impact your decision for today. If the forum is still around in ten years I'm sure someone will point out how right or wrong we were.

Pretty interesting discussion on availability. It did seem strange that a watch limited by numbers and country is still so widely available. Perhaps the future collectors will be in Japan trying to buy back the watches that were popular and sold to the rest of the world. Crazy.

Could you share which dealer? I'm kind of torn. If everything goes the way it should (in this 2020+ world of ours, who knows??) I'll have plenty of money in the budget for one of these by the summer. Of course, by the summer, the price could be close to $10k. I saw one on Chrono24 yesterday for a little under RRP, but it's been reserved.

Also interested in the dealer, but would love if people have any pics of the green bezel version. I personally have a thing for green bezels and I won't be getting a kermit anytime soon, but a few green bezel versions are floating around on chrono24.

Gents,

The Omega AD in Japan that I bought from was Jewellix located in Tokyo

I hope you get the reference that you are after

Both two tone references - i.e. Green & Black ones - look fabulous and are on my list for 2021...

I've wondered about Jewellix for some time and am glad to hear that you had a good experience with them. Did you have the watch authenticated or anything like that? Like how do you know it's the authentic product? I know the seller has a bunch of good reviews but.

It comes with all the correct paperwork, filled out omega guarantee card original packaging. Why would you think it's not authentic? I can only compare it to my 145.0022 but I have no doubt that it's a legit Omega watch.
