Today I saved a gold Omega from...

Today I saved a gold Omega from being melted for scrap gold. It is the heaviest gold Omega I ever had, 67 grams without the strap. I had a phone conversation about the watch and googled it, I immediately told myself, I will not spend a dime on that one.
But today I had it in my hands, and it did something to my weak sick soul. And I bought it, silencing my brain for a couple of minutes. I guess some of you know what I mean.
Actually, I quite like it. There is a sense of great quality mixed with a touch 70´s funkiness. Quite unusual. I tried to resist because I am not interested in electronic watches and I try to avoid gold watches with gold dials except Centenary’s. But here I am trying to scatter my mixed feelings.
I have been reading everything about it for the past two hours and I think it is not a common watch, I mean the 18k version, the gold steel version is everywhere on the net.
I read a nice thread here on OF from @Tom Dick where he shows an English Catalogue with a retail price of £674 in 1974.

I think that’s about it, oh yeah I paid a little more than the gold value.
Have a safe WE on OF. Don’t go to your watchmaker, you never know.

That would have been a real shame, looks like it's in great condition. 👍

Great story and rescue, and a lovely piece of retro cool... with the aid of a hairy chest, a splendid moustache, some speedos, and this watch, you’ll be perfectly ready for that 70s beach vibe come the summer ...

Nice, its the kind of watch that makes you want to grow a really obnoxious moustache and show off your chest hair but I like watches like that

But if it were a C-cased Connie- let it burn!
Not my thing but glad people are saving them.

Is there something you're trying to say or are you just being you? Or both? 😁

I just like to tease about the Connie thing- you have definite opinions on what you like and what you don’t- one of your more admirable traits.

It took me a long time to not be an asshole about what other people like.

I still think of, and regret, visiting my grandparents in La Crosse, WI, and making fun of the Old Style beer they had in their refrigerator... that they didn't have to offer to me.

Magnum deserved a Ploprof not a GMT-Master 😀

Wonderful, I'm a sucker for Omegas, Electronic Watches and...18k watches, good thing you found it before me, at least for my wallet ;-)
And yes, can't say I've seen that one (so BA 198.0027 based on the catalogue) very often !

Bell bottoms came back, and left again. That watch will have it's day.

Ask a millennial to choose between this watch and a speedmaster and they'll probably pick yours. It's a good save.

Gold is nice too because it shines the more you wear it.

Thanks for sharing. It's shagalicious.

That’s a nice chunky gold watch, good on you for rescuing it. You just need to find a matching chunky gold necklace and/or bracelet to complete the look.

Also, I reckon Magnum should have rocked a big old Mk II Speedy, preferably in gold 😉
