Try Longines. It’s also free.

Omega is cheaper than JLC or Patek Philippe.

My opinion is that it is “snob appeal”.

hmm depends on your personal taste , yes an extract for a 400usd omega seems expensive (but who the hell would order one) , for an 10k watch it's not expensive. why it is so complicated ? well look at your crazy laws and trading conditions...

" i want everything for free" is the wrong approach, omega isn't a non profit org. do you work for free ?

Why do you even need one. The watch tells the time.

You want to hear history talk to a old person or read a book.

Most of my watches are bought from people named Stuart, Dennis or Norman. I know the make, model, serial number and when they were shipped to Australia.
Don’t need anything else. 🥱

1st ... disgusting ... would never buy a watch from a guy called NORMAN
2nd ... you miss then all the good stories the extract tells you like , how maria fondue climbed every morning the 5k mountain to get to work and lumed your dial after she filed a new case out of a 10kg block of steel using only a humming bird feather.

It's cheaper if you do it direct by email, rather than through a boutique. Mine was $90.

Sound a bit bitter, don’t you. Get paid very well but that’s not the point

I have ordered and received many extracts by email in the US, but it always cost more. In fact, I have the form in front of me right now, and it says $150. Here is the cover page as a jpg. The second page is a form.

I ordered an EOA for my Ranchero last year.
Being in the U.K. I didn’t have any issues and I received an electronic version just outside the specified timeframe by Omega, the hard copy arrived in the post a few days later.
I was a little disappointed as it didn’t come in the fancy red folder with Omega seal that I had seen in photos previously, instead it was a small plain folded card with minimal information. I’d actually provided most of the information to Omega whilst applying for the EOA !
..... And it wasn’t even hand signed like I was expecting !
That said, taking into account the time etc it takes an Omega employee to go through various archives etc plus the confirmation the EOA gives your watch (despite the disclaimer that now heads EOA’s) it can be money well spent

The extract is 120 CHF, so if someone is charging $400 US, they are making a bit of money on that...

I read it the same way at first, but on second reading I realized that he was referring to the value of the watch.

That’s exactly what I got 150, this past week.

I remember in the early-mid 2000's, the Omega after sales customer service team in Biel/Bienne would provide this information for free. And you didn't have to wait for a watch to have aged 10 years, before being eligible.

It used to be as easy as writing them with your watch's serial number. The wonderful Maria Mastrodonato would reply with:
- Month & Year of when the watch was produced
- Country to which the watch was delivered

When I wrote, I had also sent Maria the warranty card to my 2254, and my mailing address. She promptly ordered the COSC certificate, and I received it a couple weeks later.

Now, 15 years later...
On the plus side, retrieving your watch's METAS certification is now a self-service experience we can access anytime.

On the downside, we now have to pay $150 for Extract from Archives containing information that used to be free (albeit informally sent via email).
