TinTin Speedmaster - love it, but it sits unworn...

Wear it! It was designed to be worn and enjoyed.

The (relatively minor) increase in its monetary value can never match the inherent increase in its value to you when it sits proudly on your wrist.

Am I alone in thinking this thread is making me think I should start shopping for a TinTin Speedmaster?

Prior to this, it was not on my radar, but I have to admit, the more I see it, the more I like it.

Very distinctive, yet a Speedy through and through.

I like mine. Seems less 'stuffy' than a regular Speedmaster. And since a Speedmaster is for autosports, the red-and-white 'gators' around the dial edge is fitting.

All about ones taste 😗

Picture curiosity of https://www.fratellowatches.com/speedy-tuesday-omega-speedmaster-pro-tintin/

Can't stand it, looks like the Ratatouille Speedmaster to me. The red and white look like a tablecloth or a poker chip. Dunno just me

Can't work it out same as multicoloured NATOs

( can I write NATO or does that guy on eBay own the word NATO now or still ? ! How would you pay this guy for everytime you wrote NATO ? )

I have an AP Royal Oak 15400 silver dial that I bought right before values went crazy. I wear my RO as a daily not caring about value. I bought to wear and after 3.5 years it’s definitely showing wear and tear.

I don’t own one but love the looks- I would wear the crap out of it. And like @BlackTalon basically said, it’s fun and almost whimsical.

I say you have two options.
Either sell it now in mint condition or wear to enjoy on your wrist.

If you decide on the latter, be relieved when you get the first scratch.
You'll enjoy wearing it even more without any worries of getting it scratched.

I regret to this day that I sold a watch which I kept in mint condition.
I now wish I had kept it and wore from the beginning!

Maybe that's part of the appeal for me as well -- I like cooking, and being Italian-American I saw my share of red-and-white-checked table cloths when I was growing up.

Wear it! I was just thinking the other day what an amazing watch design the Tintin is, you're so lucky to own one.

If you see the red/white checkered pattern it just takes you right back to that 50s era of space utopia that's perfect for a moonwatch.

Wow, I didn't expect such a great response - thanks to all who commented. I guess the overwhelming response is WEAR IT! I have always bought watches to wear, and that was why this one has been weighing on my mind. I agree they're not really 'investments' unless you have enough money to buy multiples of various models, keeping one or two tucked away (hopefully) appreciating, while wearing another.
I also agree with the appeal of a 'storied' watch, one that you can look at and have some memories associated with it, like my TAG Spirotechnique diver that saw service in Iraq with me, then was on my wrist as I transitioned to 'normal' life, job, kids, etc. I don't want the only memory of my TinTin to be one of sitting in a safe, then getting sold - I know I'd regret it.
So, it will come out a dark box, and onto my wrist soon (I'm out of town with work at the moment) - I'll know I'll have to put a WRUW shot up to prove it.
As for the Explorer II - it will just have to stay on the 'wish list' for the foreseeable future.
Thanks for helping me remember what this mad collecting thing is all about 😁

Good call. If its a big decision to wear it, tie it in with a special day (birthday, anniversary, wedding, divorce) so you can hang some significant day on it (after all, it's brand new until you wear it!)

After one scratch you might as well have 1000. I’m not gonna let my kids scratch it all up

Don’t buy em if you ain’t gonna wear em

Aw, man -- what a great pic. Now I've gone from wanting a classic, beautiful, pristine, still-smelling-of-new Patek to wanting a classic, beautiful, well-loved, beat to **** Patek...

Agree with most here -- I just don't buy watches I won't wear, partly because I have no idea if I'm buying on the up or the down and because I don't trust myself not to wear them. Being that Tintin back into the light, wear and enjoy it. And if you don't love it, someone else will, plus or minus a few battle scars.

That is my attitude as well! My son has a hell of a collection of firearms and watches which I had a LOT of fun with, too bad he can't enjoy them yet as he is only 7.

Don't arrive at the rental return in a serious hurry, slide into their compound sideways and take the sidewalls of two of the tyres out on the dragon's-teeth in the gateway.

Definitely Houston, probably Avis. Sorry 'bout that Avis.

My son has close to 10 Speedmasters and Seamasters, and an extensive collection of kitchen knives. He is letting me use them for the next 12 or so years...

Aha! Page 3 of this thread before we get a photo.

You obviously took your watch out of "the safe"?
