There surely has to be a Timex thread on here folks? I have had a search but couldn't find one in existence. Anyway feel free to move this if I have made a mistake. Anyway I just found this in a charity shop for £1.99. I was drawn to the design and then when I picked it up I found it was a manual wind. Bonus!! Made in the Phillipines. Let's see how it keeps time.

Nice

I must say I thought this thread might have seen a bit more activity. I thought more people might have an old Timex lying around, maybe a relatives old watch.

I must say that I have been highly impressed by that one I bought. I dated it to 1992 using a Timex fan page and it keeps time very well. At one time millions of working men would have relied on that pin pallet technology and i am enjoying having one in my collection.

Not dissimilar in design to these Timex x J Crew collaborations. This particular watch was worn by the late Anthony Bourdain when in places where wearing a more expensive watch would be unwise. In the backstreets of Brazil for example.

Recently rediscovered my first watch. Gave it a quick wind and it started right up

Always healthy bidding on these when up on ebay. They are often labelled Military watches but no evidence they were used In the military.

The military is my all round beater …Too be honest, it’s probably the watch that gets the most wear in my fleet. It’s on its third battery. I had to unsubscribe from Timex as they have been incredibly creative in the last few years.

I think the problem with Timex vintage is those old pin movements and the millions produced. They were cheap, tough and could not be serviced so they were tossed. They still can’t be serviced. The company saved themselves with the Ironman and other quartz watches. Today they are mining that legacy and producing some really fun editions from their archives, the Marlin mechanical line, Peanuts, or new stuff like the Galli line, that sell out quickly. It’s an important name in horology and they’ve done a great job with the brand IMO. Lots of energy and good quality. The finishing quality is surprising.

I agree, they produce some nice stuff. One thing on the pin pallet movements though. Apparently they can be serviced. By using lighter fluid!!!

Wonder if D5 cleaner might be safer. But yes solvent and lube.

Just had this serviced by Rohit Gupta, keeping time to within 10 second a day.
