What about the pudding? But seriously, what about the pudding? What exactly is Yorkshire pudding and is this the dish Bob Cratchett's wife serves on Xmas day?

I'd say it's similar to a pancake but cooked in the oven so it rises. When done well they are a thing of beauty, when cooked badly they are a soggy mess. Not too sure about the Cratchit's but I've never had a Yorkshire Pudding with my Christmas dinner.

I have a feeling this is one I'd want to attend. Are Yanks allowed? We will be back over to the land of driving on the wrong side in a few months, I think.

Yes we are a welcoming bunch. The more people in the round the more we get to drink.

"Pig in a California King Duvet ?" That was a funny thread. So the pudding in A Christmas Carol was something else? It appeared to be a dessert, which in the States, of course, is the only kind of pudding.
True puddings, going way back to the original meaning of the word, are steamed. So you can have a steak and kidney pudding but you can also have a plum pudding (both are much the same dish, just with different seasoning - they are a type of pie made with a suet pastry, formed in a basin with a lid tied over the top made from folded paper, then suspended over boiling water in a lidded pan and steamed for hours on end).

I'm not sure of the etymology of Yorkshire Pudding but "pudding" was used as a mild, friendly insult to someone who you were mockingly calling foolish (as in "ya daft puddin"). So, the fact that the batter is baked rather than steamed is not correct for a pudding and one theory is that the "Yorkshire" part was added because Yorkshire (country) folk were considered foolish by the clever city dwellers.

It still doesn't stop a well done Yorkshire pudding being bloody gorgeous.

Bump to the top.
Anybody else interested in attending?
It's be wonderful if we could fill the table. I know how enjoyable these have been in the past with half a dozen attendees; and, how many stand-out pieces have been shared with people who have the same interests. It'll be great to see what will be shown by more than twice that number.

I see absolutely no problem with that at all ... but I do have to say, the standard of the meals at the last two GTGs almost overshadowed the watches.

That platinum Patek ‘Mecca’ World Time special was a very pretty watch.
But you can’t leave this one out....my eyes are still burning 😲

That is not a watch but a bracelet with aspirations to be a watch
