Three year wait for a Rolex finally over

It's my father-in-law's 60th birthday on Monday. My wife had been saving for a present for a few years - to send him on holiday or similar - and three and a half years ago I spotted what I thought was perfect, a 1977 Datejust on sale on TZ-UK. I was just too late though, but through some detective work found out who had bought it. He promised to let me have first refusal if he did come to sell it and did so about six months later (he's called The Flying Banana, don't know if he's on here but a top chap). 1977 is when my wife was born and she liked that, we paid up straight away and received a rather nice watch on oyster bracelet with boxes and original paperwork plus some service history. Cut to November, Duncan at Genesis serviced the watch and did a superb job on it, it's spotless. I've tried to think what I could get the father-in-law instead, so I could keep the DJ, but couldn't come up with anything. So it's packaged up, ready to give to him on Monday. Here's a shot I took with my phone when it came back. We have a feeling he's going to like it...

You chose well. A beautiful watch with a production year marking a significant date in his life (and yours). Well played!

I think the thought and story behind this gift is much more valuable than the piece itself 😀
