Hello, I've recently discovered these models of IWC featuring a pellaton automatic movement. I find them pretty attractive and I've come across this one : In my opinion the case seems pretty sharp, the dial does not seem redone but the crown doesn't seem original. What is your opinion ? Best regards
Seems like a redial to me. Please compare this with yours. The font is different: https://rmgallagher.co/products/1958-iwc-automatic-cal-853?variant=8111156985953 Take care, gatorcpa
Hi! Before you write it off as a redial please compare the font style with the following valuable reference. There were many script variations (of "International Watch Co") on vintage IWC's depending on different manufacturing periods (or eras as I would like to call it) ! The "Schauffhausen" was block capitals either straight or slanted slightly to the right.
Happy to help. You can also get the advice from the IWC Collectors Forum if you want to authenticate a piece. I signed up there and they have been very helpful! I love these vintage IWC's and hope one day I can get to own one (not a redial!)
Also if you look at your IWC (Gatorpa) the minute marker dot at each hour marker is larger than the dots for minutes in between which is an indicator of its authenticity whereas the OP's dial the minute markers are all the same size. For me that indicates a redial.
I have another question regarding these IWCs : are black dial versions genuine ? Like this one : As you mentioned above dots on the hour markers are bigger than the other ones so it tips the balance on the right way.
I’m always wary of black dials unless I can see very sharp pictures and another example in a catalog. I cannot say much about this particular watch. gatorcpa
I saw a lot of these and I think I've owned almost 10 of these but I never saw one with a black dial. Does that mean they did'nt exist? No. But I would like to see a lot more pictures which need to be super sharp and where the text is visable.
Thanks for this resource from me as well. I went straight to my much loved IWC and confirmed its dial.
