It's being sold by HQM: https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/e08y2wol/1981-rolex-explorer-ii-1655-A793

I wish I had more expertise on these, but maybe I can impose on those of you with more experience. Or at least get some additional eyes on this piece. Many thanks in advance. Hopefully I will learn something at the very least.

As best I can figure, it's a Mk V dial (?), which should be correct for the 7M serial. I think the bezel is a Mk III, (?) but I am basing this on a very non-expert comparison with the photos in this thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/rolex-explorer-ii-1655-dials.24148/

I don't know if that combination of dial and bezel is ok, or if they are mismatched. The second hand lume has aged pretty dark, which could be legit, but opinions warmly welcomed on that point. The case seems a little too good, so perhaps it has been refinished and re-cut. Hard to say, since there are also some pretty obvious dings on the lugs.

In terms of aesthetics, the color of the lume is a bit washed out overall, and not as warm as many would prefer, but I suppose that's a matter of taste.

What have I missed?

Why don't you ask Jacek directly? He's very helpful and truthful.

I have absolutely no reason to doubt the seller, but for obvious reasons it can be useful to get additional independent opinions.

Dial stain=No Go in my book. Dial is critical and any issues will made difficult to resell.

For that money, wait and maybe spend a little more to get a better example.

Mine by comparison would be in the $18-20k range.

I’m not a fan of how they brushed the front of the lugs. They catch the eye.

Thanks for the candid opinion, Matt. Yours is a really beautiful honest example and I think your valuation is right on.
