Thoughts on this 145.022 68-ST Decimal Bezel

Hi all,

Considering to purchase this 68-ST

Price is 8.8K Euros (negotiable)

Looking at the bezel looks like the vintage version but I cannot be 100% sure.

Crown looks service crown.

Cristal needs polywatch urgently.

Replacement bracelet 1171

I spoke with the owner, he bought it in 1981 form the original owner that used it regularly and broke the bracelet. Hence the change to a newer bracelet.

The watch has not been serviced since 81. The case seems to be unpolished and I think after a good polywatch some magic can be seen.

Of course I think the price is high but would like to hear your thoughts on everything.

The dial is pretty nice , crown ? Flat feet ? For the rest is up to you but 6k € should be enough as you will have some work on it

Yeah, 8k euro's high; the bezel seems original, but decimals bezels are imo the hardest to be sure about re original v service. Still, I'd go with original.

I agree that should be a fair price.

Crown should be a flat feet.

I do not know if its a effect form the photo but between the 90-80 on the bezel seems to have been hit? I will ask for some more photos.

I did a bit of research and the alignment of the numbers and the spacings seems to go towards the vintage version.

Molded standard on that models

Just for my understanding. The lume for eg on the 4-5-6 markers are different because of the technique used at the time?

what do you think about the hands? the condition and why the black?

thanks

Humidity more often on the crown and pusher side and the lune goes in this grey black dirty, not unusual on others also it appends

That makes a total logical sense!! Never though about it this way! Thanks

1171/1 so bracelet probably replaced in 1981, square logo on clasp?

Havent got a photo of the clasp yet.

Depending on the logo I guess it will match the story told by the owner or there are something else not disclosed.

Given the overall condition (missing and discolored lume, lack of DON bezel), I'm pretty surprised that people would actually pay 6000 Euros ($7300 USD) for this.

In one of the photos you provided above, there is a pretty decent image of the clasp; it is a square logo.

You can see the varying 1171 bracelet models at the link. The bracelet/clasp in your images is a service replacement.

Those 633 end links are also not consistent with an early 1171 bracelet. They have the fold and a smaller font. So match a service replacement story.

Given the softness of current Speedy mkt, 8k Euros can get you a reasonable 321. An avg condition DON will run around 1.5k US, plus another $500 for service.

I’d stay away from this watch, would only consider if the price is sub $6k USD.

I did miss the square logo. Thanks for pointing that out.

I however do not agree this is a service replacement.

You can read on page 200 on the moonwatch only book 3rd edition about the 1171/1 Bracelet.

https://omegaforums.net/threads/fro...ge-seamaster-and-speedmaster-bracelets.45883/

On the link and also on the moonwatch only book they both concur that laser engraved on the clasp are service replacement. This is not the case here.

First to clarify, For me this was never the original bracelet for this watch.

The owner said it was purchased as the old bracelet was torned appart and at that time there was no collectors mentality or value on it. It was a daily watch.

Also in the Moonwatch book and another post in the forum. In the 80's the 633 endlinks were not flat as the 1171 bracelet but they had this prominent underline.

The main topic for me was the watch itself and maybe more focus on the head only. For me in this case the bracelet for this watch has 0 value other than what you can sell it for on its own.

But I would not be so sure calling it a service bracelet.

Yes after further analysis on all the details. I would not be able to make a deal that would make both parties happy. And indeed for that price there are better examples.

I was curios more about the decimal bezel.

Original decimal bezels are absolutely rarely to find. If anyone like to sell one, please let me know 😉 could be the service bezel either...
