Thoughts on purchasing a 15 year old Omega Aqua Terra

Would be hugely grateful for thoughts on how wise to spend a lot of money on an at least 15 year old AT.

Specifically the 231.10.39.21.02.001 calibre 8500 with white dial which I particularly like partly for the price but mainly because of the all brushed bracelet and framed date window. A few on Chrono24 and would undertake due diligence, check seller rating, whether recently serviced and how well running, all links present etc. I guess at some point a full Omega service would ensure replacement of worn parts and proper regulation.

Most grateful for advice

Thanks

Sounds like a great approach, not sure what else you need?

Watchcharts estimates the value at ~3k and the dealer price close to 3.4k. If I were hunting one down I'd be happy paying top dollar for full links, box/papers (close to 3.4k). Some proof of Omega service would be nice, but I'd probably figure the cost of an Omega service in regardless and have a total budget close to 4k.

I have owned and worn this AT cal 8500 since 2013, with one Omega service 4 years ago It is a wonderful watch within +-3 sec most days
I love the vertical teak dial pattern on these older versions. It remains my favourite and daily watch despite challenges from others including Submariner but the AT remains number one.

Since it is out of production, have you actually seen or tried the watch in person? Sometimes seeing the watch through photos on the web vs. actually trying it on can change your mind. Maybe consider a local dealer?

Recently purchased a Bumblebee (2013) and it running like new, no issues with it or bracelet fitment. The dail with the vertical teak pattern is subtle and only noticeable in certain lighting. Find mine highly legible in every light condition, which surprised even myself. Would say all systems are go for the next steps. Best of luck with the decision.
