Why is there always talk about a refreshed version of the 2018 Seamaster Diver 300M coming? I'm still waiting for them to update the 2016 Planet Ocean line.

Isn’t one a better seller? Also hasn’t the PO gone through more changes in a quick succession

Does this person on Reddit have a track record of correctly making early announcements of forthcoming Omega releases? —Like they have someone on the inside feeding them info? If not, I’m skeptical. Anyone on the internet can say anything and hope to be proven right.

That said, if Omega does release a new SM pro in varied case sizes with a tapered bracelet, they’ll certainly get my attention, especially if it’s 39mm with no date.

I didn’t realize the new no-date release was getting hate.

FWIW—my wishlist for a new release: 39 or 40mm case, no date, no wave dial, tapered oyster bracelet, and some fun color variants including the summer blue and the Americas Cup (minus all the LE branding stuff). I don’t really care if it has their newest tech innovations under the hood, or whether it’s an exhibition caseback. If they lose the He valve (but they won’t), even better.

I suppose that in some ways what I’m after would be a merging of the standard diver and heritage lines.

Oyster bracelet, no wave, no HEV? Bud it’s not a seamaster anymore then.

Au contraire.

And plenty of other examples from the model’s history. 😀

I think the hate is the increase price for perceived less watch than the ceramic current version.

Personally I love it, it’s in my top 2 next purchase and I can’t decided between the 2.

Only negative is the mesh (easily solved) & the fully lumed dial (not easily solved)

No idea on the history of the poster on Reddit. However reading he has an in - in Omega who has been correct

Would love a 40mm, sword hands, smaller (3rd gen HEV) the last 2 I doubt will happen oh & a tapering bracelet - reckon that’s on the cards.

Hope the case goes back to around 41mm, 47mm L2L, and under 13mm thick.

Could be a nice watch, but that doesn't sound much like a SMP, hardly even a Seamaster, really.

See above.

But I do understand the sentiment—what I’m proposing would be a true development, not merely a small evolution. (Arguably, a no-date on mesh is also kind of a development, so Omega isn’t necessarily opposed to such a thing?) But if you review the model’s history, I think you’ll find that it’s not outside of the vernacular. I’d still want retain the lyre lugs and the (functionally flawed but beautiful) scalloped bezel design.

Keep it simple, aluminum insert = great, add sword hands, add a solid case back, then put it on a sporty tapered bracelet. Making them all no date, I think, is a mistake, but some prefer it. Putting them all on a mesh bracelet is a mistake. Smaller HEV crown would be nice, but the SMP is what it is.

There are MANY Seamasters. How far are you going back for "inspiration?" Some didn't have rotating bezels and weren't even true diving watches. The SM Professional - what we are talking about - is more recent and has had an EXTREMELY similar look and feel from the beginning. Additionally, when Omega has wanted to inspire from the past, they come out with heritage watches or another model or something else.

I believe that Omega will come out with a cracker of a new model SMP300m this fall. With a bracelet that does taper and also has somewhat thinner links. In that respect, the same as what they did with the Speedy.

In terms of design, they can of course go in any direction. But I am also especially curious 'under the hood'. Whether they will do an update on the 8800 movement.

I honestly think that the last Seamasters that are indeed inspired by the past have nothing to do with a future model. I never believe that Omega will go back from ceramic to aluminum for a model that has to be future-proof again for the next 5 to 7 years.

I can't think of a tapered design that goes with the SMP as is. The Bond bracelet just works. Add a few "sporty" elements to replace some of the more. . . baroque elements of the current SMP and it opens many tapered bracelet designs.

I, too, believe that much more than they are hints of future models. I think there might be room for aluminum bezel inserts, though. Also, I don't consider it going back and aluminum is technically much more future proof. Ceramic makes for good looking watches, but it's not a durable watch material.

Right.

To be clear for anyone who’s confused, this is just me expressing a preference, not making a prediction. I have no actual influence over what Omega may or may not do, nor is my opinion of any consequence to anyone who doesn’t wish it to be.

Keep some of those all-caps in the chamber, man. You never know when you might need them for something important. 😀

The caps are for emphasis, and nothing else.
