It’s tired and dirty. Bank on spending at least as much again to get it running right and even then the dial will still look grotty. The visible rust on the inner caseback is a big worry. The case iteration suggests it’s actually from more like 1961-62 but the movement number is earlier, ‘58-‘59 as you say. Normally this would be a red flag but I found another example of that model seemingly with a late 50s serial and -61 case mark so maybe they used up the spare 471s in the early 60”s. Just a theory, it’s rare the serial and case iteration are this far out. Here is the other I found, rather tidier than the one you show.

    It’s rank.

Pay a bit more for one with a better dial.

I really like the look of this watch. If you are looking for a new watch go to an authorised dealer and buy a new one. For me this watch tells a story. Not every watch has to be perfect. I myself like buying a watch that I can wear without servicing and see just how long it will work for. At that price I think its a bargain. Sometimes I am very surprised by the durability of these old omega watches. Just my tuppence worth.

Is the story about being rode hard and put away wet?
