Omega Automatic Seamsters Watch 1980's Advice

Hi, have recently inherited a omega watch from a relative. It is believed to be from the 1980s. It has been serviced over time and had the watch strap replaced in the last 10 years and keeps time well.

I would like to get the watch serviced and cleaned up and valued. With the plan to perhaps put a leather strap on it so I could wear it more often.

If anyone knows anything about this watch or any advice on what I should do with it would be greatly appreciated. I live in central Scotland so any recommendations for the required work to be carried out would also be helpful.

Thanks in advance for any advice which is provided

You have a nice Omega Seamaster, case reference 166.067 wich was produced from 1969 to 1973.
It houses a caliber 565 which is a well regarded movement.

Any competent watchmaker would have no trouble doing a routine service.

Your Omega case appears to be gold shell over steel. It would appear as though it may have had somewhat enthusiast polishing of the case, resulting in the definition of the detail on the case lugs having been lost. The bracelet has an Omega buckle, and could very well be original to the watch. The winding crown needs to be replaced, and it appears to me to be a generic replacement. If you have it serviced, request that the case be cleaned, but not buffed. A gold shell finish on a watch is desirable if intact, but not so if buffing wears through the gold shell. Looks like it could be a watch that would be great to have, in good running order.

Welcome! The crown has been replaced, but this is otherwise a nice piece of 1970 for you. The bracelet is correct for the reference, but I think your instinct to put it on leather is the right one. This model will not attract a lot of £/$, but what you have got yourself is a very wearable piece that I hope you will enjoy, and you may find non-watcherati liking just as much.
Everything you could ever want to know about it is available here!

Hi All, thank you kindly for your advice. I really like the watch face and it holds sentimental value so definitely worth a refurb. I will definitely ensure to mention the gold shell care. I will post a picture up when it's done.

A little history behind it. My uncle owned it second hand in the late 80s. He worked in the bar trade and this was on his wrist daily for 20 years. I'm surprised it's not in worse condition considering the establishments he worked in/managed were not what you would call desirable!

My brother also inherited an Omega watch. It's a Pegasus mobil oil watch which my uncle reckons came from Libya. I will get some pictures and make a new posts to see if anyone has any information on it

Just wondering... does your brother's Pegasus watch have a little flying horse emblem on the dial, in white on red?
