I know, like 99% Of these are redials...
just got offered this one and had a long conversation about this topic with the owner...

But as I am the one who wanted to buy of course I am not the one to ask (owner is reading this topic and willing to believe what the Professionals here on this forum say... 😀

What do you think? Thanks in advance!!!

Here is a scan of the Air King model 5500 from my 1982 Rolex catalog. You can plainly see that the 5500 is not an Explorer model. The Explorer from that era is a 1016. The dial on the subject watch looks to me like a Hong Kong redial. As a collectible Rolex. the model 5500 would bring about 1/3 of the price of a legitimate model 1016. I have also attached a scan of the Explorer model 1016 from the same catalog. Note the considerable difference between the dials of the 5500 Air King, the Explorer 1016, and the subject watch. Don't walk, RUN!

Image on the left is the Air King 5500. Image on the right is the Explorer 1016.

Looking at how sloppy the placing of Rolex under the (weird) crown is - with 'L' touching the crown - my vote is fake dial. Sorry. After a second look I'd say that all fonts are wrong anyway
